Kylie Jenner's Makeup Artist Reveals How To Achieve An Airbrushed Makeup Look
Behind every powerful celebrity is an equally powerful army of stylists, hairstylists, and makeup artists who work together to create unforgettable looks. Like many other celebrities of her caliber, Kylie Jenner relies on the artistic genius of makeup artists like Ariel Tejada. When he was only 19 years old, the budding makeup artist began sending direct messages to celebrities on social media, asking them to give him a chance to display his makeup skills. Eventually, Jenner took him up on this offer and the reality show icon and businesswoman has been benefitting from Tejada's prowess ever since.
"My big break was through Instagram," Tejada told Glamour Magazine. "I would just post and DM everyone. It probably was not even a full year into me doing makeup when Kylie reached out to me and from that moment, my life changed forever." Since reaching out to Jenner, Tejada has amassed an impressive roster of famous clients like Kim Kardashian, Nikita Dragun, and Shay Mitchell, per Coveteur.
In the past few years, the formerly unapproachable airbrushed makeup look has been made nearly effortless with the invention of modern airbrushing equipment. Especially for those who have far from flawless skin, the airbrushed makeup trend has proven to be incredibly powerful. Last month, Tejada revealed just how to achieve that airbrushed makeup look without purchasing expensive equipment.
Tejada stresses the importance of quality makeup brushes
Kylie Jenner's go-to makeup artist, Ariel Tejada, wants to help you achieve that flawless, airbrushed look. Earlier this year, Tejada launched a limited-edition 12-piece face and eye brush set in collaboration with beauty brand Morphe called Morphe x Ariel. Tejada told Nylon that the collection's A24 foundation brush, named after his mother, has become a staple in his kit. "I cannot live without it — it never leaves my kit," Tejada told Nylon last month. "I designed it to give your foundation that diffused, airbrushed look. It's numbered after my mom's birthday because she truly is the foundation of my life." The brush set is $152 and is currently sold out on Morphe's site.
In order to achieve that airbrushed look, Tejada suggests prepping the skin with a gel moisturizer and sheer highlighter. As he revealed during an appearance on Shay Mitchell's YouTube channel, adding oil to your foundation will make it blend more effortlessly into your skin. Apply the mixture onto your skin in dots and then blend with a beauty blender or brush. The most important tip that Tejada hands down to Mitchell is to always apply your concealer after your foundation — and not the other way around. Otherwise, you've jeopardized your flawless look. At the end of the day, though, Tejada has always stressed the importance of quality makeup brushes.
