How Meghan McCain Really Feels About Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez
Meghan McCain remained an outspoken conservative Republican during her tenure on "The View." Although the daughter of the late Senator John McCain recently shocked viewers by announcing her departure from the long-running ABC daytime talk show, she's still on the show for a few more weeks. Because she's known for clashing with her co-hosts by taking a decidedly conservative stance when the women discussed controversial issues, they reportedly took a collective sigh of relief when she announced her impending departure (via Page Six).
In the weeks leading up to her announcement, McCain explained how she felt about the outspoken and sometimes controversial New York Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez during a Hot Topics segment on the talk show (via Decider). During the segment, anchor Whoopi Goldberg referenced a tweet from the Congresswoman. "President Biden and Senate Dems should take a step back and ask themselves if playing patty-cake with GOP Senators is really worth the dismantling of people's voting rights, setting the planet on fire, allowing massive corporations and the wealthy not to pay their fair share of taxes, etc.," tweeted Ocasio-Cortez. McCain was less than impressed.
Here's why Meghan McCain thinks Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez is shrewd
After referencing Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez's tweet wishing that the Democrats would stop trying to achieve bipartisanship with Republicans, anchor Whoopi Goldberg asked co-host Meghan McCain what it would take to get politicians from both sides of the aisle to work together (via Decider). McCain's response indicated what she truly thinks of the outspoken Congresswoman. "I think AOC is one of the shrewdest politicians in America right now," McCain said. "She's not just some innocent fawn in the woods that's 'stating the facts.' She's going after people in her own party."
Although McCain disagrees with Ocasio-Cortez and shares differing opinions about the role of government in the United States, she recognizes that the congresswoman is good at her job. This became evident when the two spoke face-to-face on the talk show earlier in 2021. In that segment, McCain compared herself to the congresswoman (via YouTube). "I feel like you're the boogeywoman of the right, and I'm the boogeywoman of the left," McCain said. The camaraderie didn't last long, however, as the two then sparred over some of Ocasio-Cortez's more liberal policy endorsements.
