The Heartbreaking Death Of NHL's David Pastrnak's Newborn Son
Boston Bruins hockey player David Pastrnak has announced the heartbreaking news that he and his girlfriend, Rebecca Rohlsson, lost their newborn son early last week, just six days after he was born (via ESPN). Taking to his Instagram to share the tragic news, Pastrnak wrote, "Viggo Rohl Pastrnak, June 17, 2021 – June 23, 2021," alongside a black-and-white photo of his baby's oh-so small feet. "We have an Angel watching over us and we call him SON. You will be loved FOREVER," Pastrnak continued. "Please respect our privacy as we are going through these heartbreaking times."
The Bruins were quick to show their support on Twitter, echoing the family's request for privacy. "We are heartbroken by the passing of David and Rebecca's son, Viggo. David and Rebecca are a part of our family and we share in their loss," the team's statement read. "Please keep them in your thoughts and respect their privacy during this very difficult time."
David Pastrnak was excited about becoming a father
Just last month David Pastrnak was talking to NHL.com about how he was getting ready for his new life as a father. "You come home and you don't think about hockey at all. You obviously have other priorities," he revealed. "You're getting ready for the baby, and we couldn't be more excited. So, hockey's not been talked much lately at home and sometimes that's good, you know?"
Pastrnak also shared his excitement about the impending birth and his commitment to family. "For me it's been definitely something new, but I'm so excited," he said (via ESPN). "Family is always going to be No. 1. ... I'm grateful that I can live and work with a job that I love, but at the end of the day it's just a game. [My family] is always going to be No. 1."
