Princess Diana's Friend Reveals What She Might Think Of Prince Harry's Move To America

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle's decision to walk away from royal duties back in 2020 sent shockwaves around the world. Since then, relations between the Duke and Duchess of Sussex and the rest of the British monarchy have drastically deteriorated. An example being the bombshell Oprah Winfrey interview, during which Harry and Meghan made several shocking claims about their royal relatives (via the BBC).

However, amid the royal drama, many spectators have begun to wonder what Harry's mother, Princess Diana, would think of her son's decision to depart the royal sphere and take his family to live in America.

Speaking to Us Weekly, royal expert Stewart Pearce provided some insight into what the late Princess of Wales may have thought about the royal upheaval, revealing that Diana herself had once considered moving Stateside. "She was talking about buying a property in Malibu [saying] that would be 'really great' for the boys to have freedom so that they could surf. Because they're both very sporty, you know, but they could surf, they could roller blade, they could Frisbee. So, she'd be in complete favor," he commented.

Prince Harry is following in Princess Diana's footsteps

Speaking exclusively to Us Weekly, Pearce, Princess Diana's former voice coach and author of "Diana, The Voice Of Change," also shared his belief that the Duke and Duchess of Sussex's decision to walk away from the royal family is how they've decided to honor the legacy of Diana, who famously shook things up within the British monarchy.

"They're really taking on so much of what her legacy is, to bring liberation to the disenfranchised, the disassociated, the LGBTQ+ community, [the] Black Lives Matter [and] Me Too [movements]." The royal expert continued, "All of this is within the understanding of what liberation she wanted to bring about in the sense of using her position as an egalitarian or humanitarian role, because people looked on her as being of iconic status the most."

As the BBC reported, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle first announced they were retreating from royal duties back in January 2020. In a statement at the time, the couple announced they would become "financially independent" and planned to split their time between the UK and North America. In August that same year, the couple purchased and moved into a $14.65 million home in Montecito, Santa Barbara (via Variety).
