The Clean Skincare Brand That You Need To Try

The beauty industry is ever evolving, as brands are constantly searching for ingredient combinations that help deliver the results buyers desire. More recently, you might notice skincare buzzwords like "clean beauty" and "nontoxic" have been donning the packages and advertisements of certain brands. This effort to remove harmful ingredients from skincare and beauty products is something to appreciate, as it can be better for the environment and for your health.

While you may think nontoxic ingredients are not as effective, board-certified dermatologist Jennifer Chwalek, MD, tells Well+Good that less filler ingredients in your products may mean healthier skin. She explained, "The benefit of limiting your skin-care ingredients it that you reduce the risk of irritation or allergy, and that you can focus on products that have a higher concentration of active ingredients like vitamin C, pure ascorbic acid, or retinol."

Harvard Health also suggests that the recent clean skincare movement is beneficial, as it is helping to reduce exposure to some harmful chemicals that can have a negative impact on our health.

Clean skincare created by a survivor

Indie Lee created the Indie Lee & Co. clean beauty and skin care line after she was diagnosed with a rare brain tumor at just 36 years old. She shares on her site that, although she ate healthy and organic, her doctor suggested her skincare may have contributed to her health condition. Upon this diagnosis, she felt that she had found her purpose and vowed that if she survived the surgery, "...my legacy would be to create change and empower others to live their healthiest life."

The Indie Lee website shares that the brand is nontoxic, clean beauty with "ethically sourced and naturally derived" ingredients. The brand has banned over 1300 ingredients from it's products, including phthalates and parabens, and is also cruelty-free.

The line has a wide variety of products that target multiple concerns, including a strawberry seed oil brightening cleanser and an algae and Licorice Root restorative eye cream.
