What We Know About The Upcoming Martha Stewart Documentary

Martha Stewart's life is about to be picked apart once again. This time the usually-shrewd businesswoman who has created an empire out of being a domestic goddess will become the subject of a brand-new documentary for Netflix, according to Variety.

It was back in 2003 when Stewart's life was dramatized with the TV movie, "Martha, Inc." with actress Cybill Shepherd playing the titular role, according to IMDb. That was right around the time Stewart was making headlines as part of an insider trading scandal that found her indicted for securities fraud, obstruction of justice, conspiracy and making false statements to law enforcement, according to Biography.

While Stewart pled not guilty to all charges, she was eventually convicted of conspiracy, obstruction of justice, and making the false statements, which resulted in a five month prison stay from 2004-2005, according to Biography. She has made quite the comeback in the last 15 years and now Netflix is getting its piece of her empire with its new documentary.

A different look at Martha Stewart's life

The new Netflix documentary does not yet have a name, but it does have a director, R.J. Cutler, according to Variety. The director has already been nominated for one Academy Award for his documentary about Bill Clinton's presidential campaign titled "The War Room". His latest works were the 2020 film "Belushi" and a documentary about singer Billie Eilish, called "Billie Eilish: The World's a Little Blurry" (via Variety).

Cutler's Martha Stewart documentary will reportedly delve into Stewart's early life in New Jersey where she found her entrepreneurial spirit as a babysitter for baseball legends Mickey Mantle and Yogi Berra's kids. It will then follow her life as a teen model and eventual media mogul. It will also take a deep dive into Stewart's early 2000s prison stint.

The 79-year-old Stewart is a social media presence, as well as the owner of Martha Stewart Living Omnimedia, Inc. Stewart is currently worth $400 million, according to Variety.
