The Mascara That Anna Kendrick's Makeup Artist Swears By
There's no denying actress Anna Kendrick's talent. She showed off her vocal range in "Into the Woods," conquered the comedy genre with three installments of "Pitch Perfect" and earned an Oscar nomination for Best Supporting Actress in "Up in the Air" (via IMDb.) Kendrick is even trying her hand at television with the HBO Max streaming series "Love Life."
With all these projects on her plate, it's hard to imagine Kendrick has time to breathe let alone develop a beauty routine, but somehow she finds the time. Or rather her makeup artist, Vanessa Scali, finds the time. After studying at NYU's Gallatin School, Scali has been hired by countless celebrities like Kendrick, Olivia Culpo, Ashley Greene and Emilia Clarke. Her makeup artistry has even made it to the covers of InStyle, Marie Claire and Glamour (via The Wall Group.)
So what's Scali's go-to product when creating a red carpet look for Kendrick? She starts with the eyes.
Anna Kendrick's signature lash look is all about drama
Scali's first step in generating the perfect smoky eye is Lancôme's Hypnôse Custom Volume Mascara. "The formula is buildable," Scali explained, "and the brush wraps around the lashes, giving them a full coat of inky black drama" (via Byrdie.) The mascara comes in three shades: brown, black and deep black and can be purchased for just $28 (via Sephora.) A low cost to emulate the "Trolls" star's signature sweeping lashes.
Scali's loyalty to the Lancôme brand extended all the way to Kendrick's 2021 BAFTA Award red carpet look. Kendrick's much admired bronze-rimmed eyes were courtesy of the Lancôme Hypnôse Palette in 09 Fraîcheur Rosée (via Glamour.) Scali has stated that her celebrity makeup looks are "inspired by doe-eyed icons like Jane Birkin and Sharon Tate. The flirty mix of wide, lash-framed eyes with fresh, glowy goddess skin is a modern-mod, if you will" (via Hollywood Life.)
Scali's ingenuity in the makeup world has earned her some impressive gigs. When she isn't beautifying celebrity faces, Scali also crafts looks for a number of clothing brands, and has helped with campaigns for Free People, Clairol and Johnnie Walker.
