Oprah Winfrey Shares What She Really Thinks Of Meghan And Harry Speaking Out
Following the massive success of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle's bombshell interview with Oprah Winfrey in March, Harry announced he would reunite with Winfrey for a new documentary project (via Page Six). The pair will lead the mental health series, "The Me You Can't See," which premiered on May 21st on AppleTV+. In a trailer for the series Prince Harry said, "All over the world, people are in some kind of mental, psychological, emotional pain. Being able to say, 'This is what happened what happened to me,' is crucial.'"
In the first episode of the five-part series, the Duke of Sussex opened up about Princess Diana's tragic death, his subsequent fear of the paparazzi, and his personal therapy journey (via Independent). His vulnerability and openness have begun to draw criticism from onlookers who feel the Prince shouldn't be so forthcoming with his issues and royal family matters. However, Winfrey, who has helped Prince Harry share his story with the world, has some choice words for the haters (via Page Six).
Oprah can relate to the couple's call for privacy while still being open about their issues
Oprah Winfrey appeared on the "Today" show to discuss the backlash that Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have received these past few months (via Page Six). Winfrey argued that wanting privacy does not mean that you have to be silent. She added that she is someone who asks for privacy, but frequently talks about her life. Sharing, "So, I think being able to have a life that you are not intruded upon by photographers or people flying overhead or invading your life is what every person wants and deserves — to not to be intruded and invaded upon. That's what people are missing."
Winfrey also shared her intentions behind her interview with the couple. She said, "I understood what had happened to them, and I wanted the rest of the world to come away being able to answer the question, 'Why did they leave?' And I think by the time that interview was done, people understood." The host also added that Markle and Harry haven't shared any regrets about telling their truth.
