Donald Trump Jr.'s Tweet About The New Mask Recommendations Is Raising Eyebrows

In a move seen as a true light at the end of the COVID-19 tunnel, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention announced on May 13 that people who have been fully vaccinated no longer need to wear masks or practice social distancing indoors or outdoors — even in crowded areas such as concerts. They also recommended that unvaccinated people continue to wear face coverings in most situations. Shortly after the CDC announcement, President Biden took to Twitter to sum up the organization's findings: "The rule is now simple: Get vaccinated or wear a mask until you do. The choice is yours."

The statement didn't go unnoticed by Donald Trump Jr. The eldest son of the former president has picked up where his father left off by using social media to criticize anything associated with Biden or Democrats. He frequently uses the trope that the president is showing signs of age-related dementia, and this time was no exception. His response on Twitter? "Um, team Biden Joe somehow got a hold of his Twitter account and is talking all crazy again."

Social media users were quick to reply, either with agreement or with snarks of their own.

Donald Trump Jr.'s followers protested President Biden's 'threat'

Critics pointed out that Donald Trump Jr.'s father contributed to the high COVID-19 death rate during his term by minimizing the danger of the virus and failing to establish national policy. They also noted his famous remarks about possible cures. A commenter tweeted: "Beats your daddy's tips about trying to get light into your body or injecting some disinfectant." Others noted that unvaccinated people still risk passing on the virus to vulnerable populations, as one tweeted: "Well if talking sense is crazy, [then] I am glad to be in the funny farm. Being unvaccinated AND not wearing a mask infringes on the rights of others. That's not what America is about."

But other followers agreed that Biden's tweet sounded too much like an ultimatum. "They can't get enough of inflicting fear on the people, this is gross and the most unethical violation of human rights!" tweeted one. Another Twitter user wrote: "Luckily most Americans don't take threats or manipulation from a dementia patient who can't put a sentence together. No matter where they live or what office they cheated their way into." Another follower tweeted an apocalyptic future: "I am still confused as to exactly how they will know who is vaccinated and who is not. Will we have to 'show our papers' or get put against the wall? Perhaps a mark on either our right hand or forehead?"
