Caitlyn Jenner Didn't Cast A Vote For Donald Trump. Here's Why

You know that feeling when you think you have somebody pinned down and then, plot twist, you don't? Yeah. We all know that California gubernatorial wannabe Caitlyn Jenner didn't vote for Donald Trump in 2020. In 2018 she wrote an op-ed in The Washington Post expressing her disappointment in Trump's failure to advocate for "LGBTQ issues," and condemning him for showing "no regard for an already marginalized and struggling [Trans] community." Of course, she's not a Trump supporter, right?

Wrong-ish. Caitlyn Jenner might be running in California on an "I'm not a politician," ticket, but she's just done something notoriously politician-esque. In early May 2021, the woman who'd like to kick Governor Gavin Newsom out of The California Governor's Mansion walked back her criticism of the former president. She told Sean Hannity that she admired Trump. "What I liked about Donald Trump is he was a disruptor, you know?" she said (via The Hill). "He came in and shook the system up ... I think he did some things that I agree with, some things I didn't agree with." Jenner additionally revived one of Trump's most epically successful campaign slogans, telling Hannity, "I am all for the wall" (via HuffPost).

"Jiminy Cricket!" is right. We're not done, yet. Speaking to CNN recently, Caitlyn Jenner affirmed she didn't vote for Trump — but not necessarily because she doesn't support the former president.

Caitlyn Jenner didn't vote for Trump because it wasn't 'gonna work'

You might think that Caitlyn Jenner chose not to vote for Trump because, as she wrote in her The Washington Post op-ed, Trump "has ignored [the Trans community's] humanity. He has insulted our dignity. He has made trans people into political pawns as he whips up animus against us in an attempt to energize the most right-wing segment of his party." You'd be wrong. In fact, she didn't vote for Trump because she woke up on election day, uninspired. That's at least what the gubernatorial candidate recently told CNN's Dana Bash. "Out here in California, it's like, why vote for a Republican president? It's just not gonna work. I mean, it's overwhelming," she explained (via Twitter). Jenner elaborated that she normally only pays attention to state-level propositions and that in November 2020, she didn't have an opinion about any of them. "It was Election day and I just couldn't get excited about it. I just wound up going to play golf."

If the idea that Jenner didn't vote for Donald Trump in 2020 only because she didn't think her vote would make a difference is discouraging to you, wait until you hear what happened next. After some digging Politico confirmed that California public records say that Caitlyn Jenner did actually vote, contrary to everything she told CNN. What?! When pressed, a spokesperson for the ex-reality T.V. star then insisted to the publication  that the votes she cast in 2020 were on "some local issues."
