Inside Heidi Montag's Relationship With Spencer Pratt
Heidi Montag and Spencer Pratt have one of the most documented relationships in reality TV history. The couple first met in 2007 when Montag was filming MTV's "Laguna Beach" spin-off series "The Hills" (via Insider). The couple immediately hit it off, and Montag revealed that she instantly knew that he was the one for her. "I pretty much told everyone I was going to marry him and that I loved him. [Everyone] thought I was crazy," she told Vice. The couple's relationship was a problem for Montag's best friend, Lauren Conrad, who accused Pratt of spreading lies about her. The two friends got into an argument, and Montag ultimately chose her relationship with Pratt over her friendship with Conrad.
After a year of dating, Montag and Pratt eloped during a trip to Cabo San Lucas, Mexico. In April 2009, the couple got married again. This time, they opted for a church ceremony in front of 200 family members and friends. MTV cameras rolled on the nuptials, which was featured during an episode of "The Hills." Later that year, the newlyweds appeared on the reality series, "I'm A Celebrity...Get Me Out Of Here!" The duo caused issues with the other contestants and ended up leaving the series when Montag began feeling ill. In the summer of 2010, Montag filed for divorce from Pratt and claimed their marriage was fake. A few months later they reconciled and called off their divorce. They celebrated by renewing their wedding vows.
What are Heidi and Spencer doing now?
After getting back together, Heidi Montag and Spencer Pratt continued to have their share of problems, per Insider. In 2014, the couple appeared on the reality series, "Marriage Boot Camp Reality Stars," in hopes of working through some of their marital issues. By 2016, Montag and Pratt admitted that after years of earning money from their reality TV fame they were struggling financially. "I was kind of playing house. I felt like I was someone I wasn't. We had business managers who told us to stop spending but we acted like we knew what we were doing," Montag told People of her overspending. "Everyone else on our cast had houses and we had nothing to show for what we'd done. I was like, the haters were right! It was sad," she added.
One year after confessing they were broke, Montag and Pratt announced that they were pregnant with their first child. The pair welcomed their son, Gunner Stone Pratt, in October 2017. The following year, the couple went back to their roots when they announced they planned to star in a reboot of "The Hills" alongside some old and new cast members. These days, the couple is thinking of expanding their family. However, the COVID-19 pandemic pushed back their plans. "That was a hard conversation to have. Still, Heidi wishes we'd been able to do that. And I'm still glad we didn't," Pratt told Us Weekly of their decision to wait.
