Prince Andrew Suffers Another Indignity
Charles, Prince of Wales has taken over his younger brother Prince Andrew's role as patron of The Royal Philharmonic Orchestra. Charles' position as royal patron was announced by the organization in an official statement released on April 27, 2021.
"The Royal Philharmonic Orchestra is delighted to announce that The Prince of Wales has accepted an invitation to become the Orchestra's Patron," the statement read. "The Prince of Wales has a life-long association with the Arts. During the pandemic His Royal Highness spoke about the importance of protecting the Arts, stressing their enormous importance to life in the UK and to the economy."
As Woman & Home report, Prince Charles' newest patronage has become one of many he already holds. However, this latest role is particularly significant to the Prince of Wales due to his passion for classical music.
The organization's recent announcement did not mention the former Royal Philharmonic Orchestra patron, Prince Andrew, who previously stepped down from royal duties following revelations about his personal relationship with the disgraced Jeffrey Epstein, (via People).
Prince Charles has replaced his brother Andrew before
According to the Yorkshire Post, this is Prince Andrew's second patronage to be taken over by older sibling Prince Charles, who was subtly named patron of York Minster cathedral back in November 2020.
In an effort to keep the patronage takeover under the radar, no official announcement was made regarding the appointment of Charles in this position. However, the royal family did update their list of patronages on the British monarchy's official website.
Prince Andrew stepped back from public duties "for the foreseeable future" in November 2019 following the controversy surrounding his association with Jeffrey Epstein. In a statement announcing his retreat from royal life, the Duke of York commented, "It has become clear to me over the last few days that the circumstances relating to my former association with Jeffrey Epstein has become a major disruption to my family's work and the valuable work going on in the many organizations and charities that I am proud to support."
