Scottie Pippen's Poignant Tribute To His Son Antron
Scottie Pippen has revealed a heartbreaking family tragedy. His oldest son, 33-year-old Antron Pippen, has died. It's heartbreaking for a parent to outlive their own child, and Scottie is clearly hurting at the loss of his oldest of seven children. Scottie and his first wife, Antron's mother Karen McCollum, were married from 1988 to 1990 (per Yahoo! Lifestyle).
The NBA legend shared the news via social media on Monday morning. "I'm heartbroken to share that yesterday, I said goodbye to my firstborn son, Antron," he began. "The two of us shared a love for basketball and we had countless conversations about the game. Antron suffered from chronic asthma and if he hadn't had it, I truly believe he would've made it to the NBA." His mention of the chronic asthma has led some to believe Antron's death may have been related, but no cause of death has been released by the family or any medical officials.
Scottie Pippen admired Antron's perseverance
Antron had a brief basketball career of his own. He played for both South Georgia Technical College and Texas A&M International (per People).
"He never let that [his asthma] get him down, though — Antron stayed positive and worked hard, and I am so proud of the man that he became," Scottie continued in the heartfelt tribute to his son. "Please keep his mom, Karen, and all of his family and friends in your thoughts and prayers. A kind heart and beautiful soul gone way too soon. I love you, son. Rest easy until we meet again."
Condolences poured in from people who wanted to support Scottie through this difficult time. His most recent ex-wife, Larsa Pippen, posted in Antron's memory. "Some truths in life are hard to accept. Your memories will never be forgotten! They will always remain with us forever," she wrote on her Instagram story. "You are forever in our hearts. We love u and will miss u always. RIP, Antron."
