The Real Reason Lady Gaga's New Movie Is Already Getting Panned

It's no secret that Lady Gaga - whose real name is Stefani Germanotta – is an incredibly talented musician and performer, but she's also got some seriously killer acting chops, too. After all, she was nominated for Best Actress for her role in the remake of A Star Is Born opposite Bradley Cooper, who was also nominated for Best Actor for his starring role in the film. Gaga also showed the world that she's an incredibly brilliant actress when she starred on American Horror Story: Hotel and American Horror Story: Roanoke (via IMDb).

The "Born This Way" singer is currently in Italy filming the highly anticipated Ridley Scott movie, House of Gucci, which also stars Adam Driver, Jared Leto, Al Pacino, Salma Hayek, Jack Huston, and a ton of other A-listers (via IMDb). House of Gucci is based on the book The House of Gucci: A Sensational Story of Murder, Madness, Glamour, and Greed by Sara Gay Forden, which tells the story of the murder of Maurizio Gucci, the grandson of Guccio Gucci. Patrizia Reggiani, who is portrayed by Lady Gaga in the film, served eighteen years in prison after she was convicted of hiring a hit man to kill Maurizio (via People).

And while the hype around the film hasn't died down since Driver and Gaga's Instagram picture of themselves in character broke the internet, the Gucci family isn't happy about the project.

The Gucci family has words for the creators and stars of the film

In a statement to The Associated Press on April 14, Patrizia Gucci, the great-granddaughter of Guccio Gucci, writes, "We are truly disappointed. I speak on behalf of the family. They are stealing the identity of a family to make a profit, to increase the income of the Hollywood system....Our family has an identity, privacy. We can talk about everything, but there is a borderline that cannot be crossed."

Patrizia Reggiani previously voiced her disdain for House of Gucci, telling Italian news outlet, Ansa, "I'm annoyed by the fact that Lady Gaga is portraying me in the new Ridley Scott film without even having the courtesy or the good sense to come and meet me. It's nothing to do with money because I won't be taking a single cent from the film. It's about common sense and respect."

Reggiani continued, "I believe that any good actor should first get to know the person that they are meant to be playing. I think it is not right that I wasn't contacted. And I say this with all the sympathy and appreciation that I have for her." As of writing, Lady Gaga has not responded.

House of Gucci is set to premiere in November this year.
