The Truth About Zara Tindall's Husband Mike
Just last month, the queen's granddaughter, Zara Tindall, and grandson-in-law, Mike Tindall welcomed their son, Lucas, to the world. This was just weeks before the passing of Prince Philip, the Duke of Edinburgh on April 9. However, the queen and the duke had announced how "delighted" they were of the news and were looking "forward to meeting their 10th great-grandchild when circumstances allow" (via BBC).
Lucas is the third child of Zara and Mike Tindall, who have two daughters — Mia and Lena — as well. Mike had previously said that the two had "wanted a boy," but "at the end of the day, [they're] just happy if it's got 10 fingers and 10 toes and it's healthy" (via People). Luckily, they got the boy they wanted, and Lucas Tindall is now 22nd in line to the throne. Since Zara is the daughter of Princess Anne and royal tradition says that only a father may pass down a royal title, she is one of the royal family members without a fancy title. That means Mike also does not have a royal name. As far as being a part of the royal family goes, though, Mike has been pretty honest in the past saying that it "has its benefits and it has its negatives" (via The Independent). But overall, the pair have been pretty good about "getting on with what's right for [them]."
Mike is a former rugby player who hosts his own podcast
Before being a part of the royal family, Mike Tindall was a professional rugby player. He played for 17 years before retiring in 2014 after the birth of his first daughter, Mia (via Town & Country Magazine). Now, Mike hosts a rugby podcast, The Good, The Bad & The Rugby, with co-hosts James Haskell and Alex Payne.
It was actually on an episode of the podcast when Mike revealed that Zara had an unexpected home birth of their son, Lucas. Seems, after realizing they wouldn't make it to the hospital in time, Lucas was born on the bathroom floor (via E! Online). The unusual birth was very similar to that of the late Prince Philip's, who had to be delivered on the dining room table, according to Hello! magazine. So, while the newborn never got to officially meet his great-grandfather, he does share a special bond. And despite it being an unexpected surprise to have a home birth, Mike seemed to be in good spirits about the situation. He even jokingly described it as "running to the gym, get a mat, get into the bathroom, get the mat on the floor, towels down, brace, brace, brace" on his podcast (via CNN).
