Here's What Joe Wexler From My 600-Lb Life Looks Like Now
Joe Wexler's journey on the third season of My 600-lb Life was one of the most inspiring in the show's history (via YouTube). Initially weighing in at close to 800 pounds, Wexler found it tough to do the most basic things, from walking to washing himself. The reality star's disordered eating started as a result of Wexler's difficult relationship with his father, which even led to him having severe mental health issues on top of his unhealthy food habits. However, the inimitable Dr. Now helped Wexler turn it around.
After meeting the doctor on My 600-lb Life, Wexler learned he had to lose weight before being cleared for surgery. He gained some instead, leading to a therapy session to target Wexler's childhood trauma, after which he fought hard to lose the requisite pounds and get approved for the all-important gastric bypass procedure. Just a month later, the young man's life was changed as he began driving and becoming more independent. Two years on, Joe Wexler had dropped close to 500 pounds. Has he continued on the right path?
The future looks bright for Joe Wexler
During an episode of My 600-lb Life: Where Are They Now?, Joe Wexler admitted his time on the show was "really tough — one of the hardest things I ever did" (via YouTube). During his follow-up segment, Wexler also shared how he'd met the love of his life, Sarah, and married her. However, the couple ultimately divorced after just three years following accusations of infidelity on her part, as per Starcasm. In 2020, Wexler took to Facebook to update fans on his progress, admitting, "it has certainly been a very intense time."
The My 600-lb Life star wrote that he was "learning how to love myself again after everything that happened with my ex wife and the things she did to me." Although Wexler struggled with depression and even some small weight gain, he took responsibility for his setbacks and aimed to do much better in the future, noting, "I have started my diet back up again so I can get back down to where I was at before." As The Cinemaholic notes, the My 600-lb Life star has bought his first home after moving back to Tennessee, has a new girlfriend, a job in the IT sector, and by all accounts appears to be doing well.
