The Truth About Dr. Pimple Popper's Marriage
Humans are kind of weird. Ok, fine, really weird. A prime example: the beloved extraction videos posted by Dr. Pimple Popper, A.K.A Dr. Sandra Lee. The board-certified dermatologist is known worldwide both for her videos and TLC reality show that focus on what she does best: popping, squeezing, and pulley nasty ickies out of people's skin. "I had been practicing for more than a decade when I started getting into Instagram," Dr. Lee told Refinery29. "Then one day, I happened to post a blackhead extraction on someone's back and noticed an immediate increase in attention. People were tagging other people writing, 'Oh my gosh, you have to look at this.' So, I did it again." And again, and again, and again. Why? In the words of the good doctor herself: "Popaholics are everywhere. In a room of 10, there's probably one or two people who love pimple popping videos."
Thanks to her popaholics, Lee has a massive following. But, oftentimes, what comes out of her clients' skin overshadows her personal life. For example, most people don't know much about Lee herself — like the fact that she's married. So, here's the truth about Dr. Pimple Popper's marriage.
Dr. Pimple Popper met her husband at med school
According to Women's Health, Dr. Pimple Popper is married to another dermatologist, Dr. Jeffrey Rebish. Their skin-based romance began straight out of a Grey's Anatomy plot line: locking eyes on day one of med school. "We were both at medical school in Philadelphia to become dermatologists," Rebish told Refinery29. "Sandra walked into the room on orientation day, and I knew right away that she was the one." From there, the dermatologist couple started building a life together, dating all during school and moving to Dr. Sandra Lee's hometown in California upon graduation.
Lee and Rebish aren't just married, either — they're also business partners. As Rebish explained, "Together we took over [her dad's] practice, and we've been working in our office in Upland — running the business as partners, while raising a family — ever since." Rebish also dished on the drama that comes with being Mr. Pimple Popper. "As a married couple and business partners, we definitely discuss work at home... but besides those occasions, Dr. Pimple Popper is pretty separate from Sandra as a wife and mother at home."
Dr. Pimple Popper and her husband have two sons
Dr. Pimple Popper's immediate family doesn't end with her husband, Dr. Jeffrey Rebish; as reported by Distractify, they also have two sons. The two boys are Irish twins, which means they were born less than 12 months apart.
Interestingly enough, despite how willing Dr. Sandra Lee is to share her dermatology skills on reality TV and social media, she doesn't like to share her family. There are very few pictures posted of her sons online, and many of those that do exist are back-facing or from when they were much younger.
This is probably because the famous doctor and her husband want to keep their children grounded. And, if another interview with Distractify is any evidence, they're succeeding — maybe too much. "I once said to them, 'You know, your mom is a YouTuber,'" Lee recalled. "And they were like, 'Mom, you are not a YouTuber. Please, don't ever say that.'" Ahh, kids.
Dr. Pimple Popper and her husband live in Southern California
What can a successful dermatology practice, a TLC show, and a booming social media empire buy? A gorgeous mansion. As per Today, Dr. Pimple Popper, her husband, and their sons live in a stunning home in Southern California. "It's sort of like this Southwest, modern kind of look," Dr. Lee explained. "We live in the Inland Empire, so we're just trying to take advantage of the mountains and the scenery." And they certainly do! The house features sweeping windows with incredible mountain views, as well as an open floor plan perfect for entertaining.
Lee also revealed that the home has finishes that are special to their family, like a Lazy Susan that pays "homage to [her] Chinese roots" and a custom-made pool table that reminds her of when she and her husband first started dating. "I guess he wooed me over the pool table," Lee continued. "That's what we'd do: Go to dive bars and play pool. I'd be, like, his little ringer. I called myself the 'mini Black Widow.'" Oh, and no dermatologist's home would be complete without a lucite sculpture stuffed with Botox bottles!
Dr. Pimple Popper's husband is "not a pimple popper"
If her Instagram account is any evidence, Dr. Pimple Popper is all popping, all the time. But what about her husband, Dr. Jeffrey Rebish? Does he have the urge to squeeze and pop all manner of pimples and blackheads? According to an interview with Refinery29, he doesn't. In fact, he doesn't even watch Dr. Pimple Popper or any of Dr. Sandra Lee's videos online! "[It's] not because I'm not supportive; I'd just rather not see that stuff outside of the office," Dr. Rebish revealed. "Funnily enough, our boys don't watch it either — they actually get mad if we turn it on at dinner. Even Sandra will tell you she's not a popaholic." Not sure if that last bit is true...
But what is true is that at least one of Lee's son's isn't a Dr. Pimple Popper fan. As she told Distractify, her older son "is like, 'I can't watch this stuff,' and I respect that." Luckily, as per the same interview, her other kid is into her alter ego; he watches her videos, comments on social media posts, and even monitors other people's reactions.
Dr. Pimple Popper and her husband are "a team"
What's it like being Dr. Pimple Popper's husband? Well, according to an interview Dr. Jeffrey Rebish gave to Refinery29, it's busy. "Before Dr. Pimple Popper, Sandra and I divided our workload equitably... But since she's kind of blown up... things are different," he shared. "Sandra has to give a lot of time to Dr. Pimple Popper... It's her baby, so I pick up slack where she might've been more of a presence if it weren't for the show." Husband of the year alert! Especially since he added, "Ultimately, I'll always be involved any way Sandra needs me to be, because we're a team."
They're not just a team in marriage, either. Dr. Sandra Lee and Rebish own and operate a dermatology practice that allows them to showcase their individual talents. "We have very different roles in the office," Rebish continued "I'm the business guy, more behind-the scenes... But Sandra handles the cosmetic side of things."
Of course, Lee is definitely grateful for her husband's unwavering support. She showed her thanks in an Instagram post, commenting, "Let me just say. You. Complete. Me." Talk about #RelationshipGoals.
Unlike his wife, Mr. Dr. Pimple Popper isn't into social media
Dr. Pimple Popper is all about social media. According to an interview she gave to Refinery29, posting videos to her YouTube and Instagram was how she got her reality TV start. But Dr. Jeffrey Rebish, on the other hand, isn't into social media — not even a little. As Dr. Sandra Lee wrote in a Facebook post, "Getting my husband to take a photo with me is like trying to pop out a scarred cyst. Difficult!!"
While he doesn't like participating in social media himself, Rebish is more than willing to help out with his wife's frequent posting. "If I ask for his opinion about something, and he thinks it's the stupidest thing, he'll tell me it's stupid and I respect that," Lee told Distractify. "I know he cares about me — he's not just saying, 'Yea do that [stupid thing].'"
If he's not snapping selfies or filming popping videos, how does Rebish fill his time? As he revealed to Refinery29: "I handle the administrative side of [our] practice, while also seeing my own patients." Plus he's a dad, so you know he's busy.
Dr. Pimple Popper kept her social media side-hustle away from her husband at first
Dr. Jeffrey Rebish, Dr. Sandra Lee's husband, has been there for each part of her Dr. Pimple Popper journey — even if he didn't always know it was happening. "Sandra [is] the kind of person who can't sleep through the night. We'll be in bed, and she's up on her phone," Rebish dished to Refinery29. "About four years ago, she was regularly up pretty late. Come to find out, she was actually posting these videos of her surgeries to YouTube under this alias she created called 'Dr. Pimple Popper.'" He was sleeping right next to the creation of a legend and he didn't even know it!
Lee didn't tell Rebish about Dr. Pimple Popper until it was really getting off the ground. "Once YouTube was paying her and the videos were actually bringing in money, she filled me in," he continued. And it's a good thing she did because, as per that same interview, it was shortly thereafter that Lee's videos blew up and she got the call from TLC.
Dr. Pimple Popper has never popped anything on her husband's skin
Does Dr. Pimple Popper bring her work home? According to her husband, Dr. Jeffrey Rebish, she tries not to. "Dr. Pimple Popper is pretty separate from Sandra as a wife and mother at home," he told Refinery29. However, sometimes it's impossible to avoid combining Dr. Pimple Popper and Dr. Sandra Lee. "As a married couple and business partners, we definitely discuss work at home," Rebish continued. "Especially if Sandra's worried about a patient's outcome — if there's a big surgery with a risk of bleeding that definitely weighs on her." He added that sometimes, Lee has called off plans if she's had a particularly rough day.
While Lee's husband is open about discussing work and popping at home, he draws the line at letting his wife's squeezing fingers anywhere near his skin. "I mean, she's never popped anything on my skin," Rebish continued, "which might be a little disappointing to her fans — because a husband-wife surgery would certainly make for good TV." Fortunately, Lee doesn't mind the husband popping embargo, and still calls her man her "better half" (per Instagram).
Why Dr. Pimple Popper and her husband work so well together
As per Refinery29, Dr. Pimple Popper and her husband, Dr. Jeffrey Rebish, aren't just husband and wife — they're also business partners. The dermatologist couple own and operate their own dermatology practice in Southern California. But, as many husbands and wives will attest, it's hard enough being married without adding work drama to the mix. So, how do Dr. Sandra Lee and Rebish make it work? "He's the brains and I'm the personality," Dr. Lee revealed in a chat with Distractify. "We complement each other well, we have different things we do at the office."
But that's not Lee's only tip; she went on to tell Distractify that, "The big thing, I think for everyone who works with their husband or a family member is the hierarchy. We would never be able to work together if I worked for him or if he worked for me." Lee concluded by saying that she and her husband are equals at work, which allows them to cultivate trust and keep "each other's best interest at heart."
