What We Know About Prince Philip Leaving The Hospital
Prince Philip is back in Windsor Castle after spending a month in the care of two London hospitals. He was reunited with his wife of 73 years, Queen Elizabeth II. for what Buckingham Palace described as "treatment for an infection and a successful procedure for a pre-existing condition". His stay was the longest he'd ever been under hospital care (via BBC).
As they announced Prince Philip's departure, Buckingham Palace also said "His Royal Highness wishes to thank all the medical staff who looked after him ... and everyone who has sent their good wishes."
Prince Philip, who is also known as the Duke of Edinburgh, and the Queen were both spending time in lockdown when he was taken to the hospital. The palace did not say why he was first admitted.
After spending two weeks at King Edward VII hospital, he was taken to St. Bartholomew's where he underwent an unspecified procedure for a heart condition. All this happened as his grandson Prince Harry and his wife Meghan Markle prepared to be interviewed by Oprah Winfrey in a tell-all. Both Prince Philip and the Queen have been inoculated against the coronavirus (via The Independent).
Fans of the Royal Family sent their best wishes to the Prince via social media
Well-wishers who celebrated the Duke's discharge included the Prime Minister, Boris Johnson, whose spokesman said that Johnson "continues to wish Prince Philip a speedy recovery," and that the Prime Minister was pleased to see the Queen's husband return to Windsor Palace (via BBC).
Fans of the Royal Family took to social media to celebrate the Duke of Edinburgh's discharge, even though thoughts of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle were never too far away. One praised the Duke, saying "#PrincePhilip what a trouper. walks out of hospital and doubtless back to convalesce in Windsor Castle. Wonderful news for the Queen who's had a rough few weeks courtesy of #HarryandMeghanOprah." Another announced the Prince's discharge saying: "Finally some good news for the Queen, the Duke of Edinburgh has been seen leaving the King Edward VII hospital this morning after a month in hospital. #PrincePhilip was driven away in the back seat of a car, hopefully to be reunited with Her Majesty at Windsor Castle."
