Emma Watson Reveals The Truth About Her Future
Although rumors began to swirl last week of Emma Watson's retirement from acting, the truth about the Harry Potter star's future has finally been revealed. On Saturday, the Daily Mail reported that Watson had gone "dormant," according to her agent, meaning she had "given up acting." Fans around the world were both shocked and dismayed, as the outlet revealed that the former child star had decided to retire from acting in order to spend more time with boyfriend, Leo Robinton, a Los Angeles businessman specializing in legal cannabis (via Elle).
Although Watson's career has stretched out 20 years, rumors flew as the Daily Mail confirmed that her publicist stated, she "is not taking on new commitments." While Harry Potter aficionados, fans of Perks of Being a Wallflower, and lovers of Greta Gerwig's adaptation of Little Women were all left deeply saddened by the news, many rallied as sources of support.
One Twitter user wrote, "Emma Watson has given us some of the most iconic roles. I'm wishing her all the best for the future. She deserves this" (via US Weekly). While another wrote, "I did not expect to wake up and read that Emma Watson is retiring from acting but she's doing what's best for her so i can't really complain. Thank you for giving us so many great performances" (via US Weekly). All in all, fans were deeply sentimental about Watson's retirement — but it seems like there isn't as much cause for worry after all.
Emma Watson might be planning to settle down with her boyfriend
That being said, Watson is spending much more time with her businessman beau, who she has been with for 18 months, and the pair are getting more serious. So much so that she might just be ready to settle down. As a source told the Daily Mail, "Emma... is settling down with Leo. They're laying low. Maybe she wants a family." The two hit it off during a dinner in London, first sighted in Oct. 2019, and the actress introduced him to her parents that same year (via US Weekly).
Elle reports that Robinton, 31, deleted all of his social media once getting together with the actress, and that he comes from a big family with four siblings. He is also known to have marched for women's rights in Washington D.C., which surely pairs well with Watson's passion for social impact. The two now live in L.A.
Watson spoke to British Vogue in 2019 about pressures to start a family, telling the outlet about how she felt at the brink of turning 30. "There is suddenly this bloody influx of subliminal messaging around. If you have not built a home, if you do not have a husband, if you do not have a baby.... There's just this incredible amount of anxiety."
Whether or not Watson and Robinton decide to start a family of their own one day, we know Watson will keep balancing her work and love life. And — hopefully — keep bringing us tons of amazing films!
