Shailene Woodley Opens Up About Her Engagement To Aaron Rodgers
The manner in which NFL star Aaron Rodgers announced his engagement was odd, even by Hollywood standards. He casually thanked his fiancée, without naming her, while accepting the MVP award at the 2021 NFL Honors (as seen in this video on Twitter). Since rumors had been circulating for weeks that he was seeing actress Shailene Woodley, it didn't take long to put two and two together. E! News confirmed with a source close to the couple that they are very happy but are otherwise keeping things under the radar.
"They are both focused on their careers but they also make time for each other," the source said. The new couple apparently started their relationship on a long distance basis. Although everything appeared to be heading in the right direction, it seemed any information about Rodgers and Woodley would come out bit by bit. Surprisingly, however, the actress has gone public and confirmed the engagement.
Shailene Woodley confirmed the happy couple has been engaged for a while
During an appearance on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon (via YouTube) earlier this week, Shailene Woodley was impressively open about her relationship with Aaron Rodgers, confirming simply, "yes, we are engaged." She even joked about having never imagined herself marrying somebody who "threw balls for a living." About the couple's nonchalance over the announcement, she reasoned, "for us, it's not new news, you know, so it's kind of funny." In fact, Woodley confirmed the two have actually been engaged for longer than people realize.
"I don't know him as a football guy. I know him as, like, the nerd who wants to host Jeopardy! That's the dude I know. He just happens to also be very good at sports," she explained. Although the engagement may seem like it came out of nowhere, a source close to the couple previously told People it wasn't a shock to those who know them well. "They are very happy together. It's not surprising he proposed so fast. When you know, you know, right?" the insider said at the time. The NFL star was previously linked to race car driver Danica Patrick, while Woodley split from another athlete, rugby player Ben Volavola, in April 2020.
