This Is How Beyonce Is Helping The People Of Texas

In Texas, The New York Times reports that 13 million people will have to boil their drinking water for the near future as a brutal winter storm burst pipes across the state. Hospital ICUs are filling up. While power is slowly returning to some parts of the state, many have already burned their homes' furniture for emergency heating purposes (via Today).

FEMA is scrambling to pick up the pieces. Voice of America reports that the emergency management agency has sent 729,000 liters of water, 60,000 blankets, and 225,000 meals to affected areas across the state. Meanwhile, The Times may have caught senator Ted Cruz requesting help from the Houston Police Department to get to the airport and escape his frigid home for a luxury resort in Cancun (leading Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez to call, again for his resignation). But at least Beyoncé's stepping up to the plate. There's a reason she's reaching out. These days, the music icon calls a swanky mansion in Bel-Air home. But Beyoncé grew up in Houston. She fell in love with the performance arts by singing at her mom's beauty salon (via Visit Houston).

As per People, those affected by Winter Storm Uri can apply through Bread of Life's Disaster Relief Assistance Application Form to receive as much as $1,000 in aid. Since announcing the partnership yesterday, so many people have applied for assistance that, at the time of this writing, Bread For Life reports already having received as many applications as it can handle in a "first round." They are "closing the application process, while we work diligently to help the most needy in the wake of the winter storm," the NGO writes.
