Whatever Happened To AGT Winner Kodi Lee?
Some have superior singing skills while others transport us to another world with their magical — and seemingly mystical — talents. While all of America's Got Talent winners are special in one way or another, then along came Kodi Lee. The legally blind and autistic 24-year-old singer stole the show, and audiences' hearts, and became the show's Season 14 winner in 2019. But whatever happened to AGT winner Kodi Lee? As it turns out, a lot.
From the moment that Lee stepped out onto the AGT stage with his mom Tina Lee, the talented artist made a strong impression. With a perfect pitch, he belted out Donny Hathaway's song "A Song For You," which left everyone in tears. The performance even earned Lee the Golden Buzzer from AGT judge Gabrielle Union. He then went on to win the season, beating the Detroit Youth Choir, Voices of Service, comedian Ryan Niemiller, dance group V. Unbeatable, singer Emanne Beasha, and others (per Good Housekeeping).
What has Kodi been up to since AGT?
After earning bragging rights as AGT's Season 14 winner (and landing a $1 million grand prize and a headlining show at the Paris Theater in Las Vegas), Kodi Lee has continued to perform, albeit virtually, Heavy reports. In fact, fans can still hear Lee's amazing voice by watching his Instagram performances and of course, more of his signature #heckyeah. As of February 2020, Lee has over Instagram 400,000 followers and counting.
Staying true to his commitment to raising awareness for the autistic community, Lee recently participated in the Doug Flutie Jr. Foundation for Autism's 7th Annual Night to Shine Virtual Gala & Concert. He was also scheduled to perform at the Night of Too Many Stars: America Unites for Autism Programs last April at the Hulu Theater at Madison Square Garden, but the event was postponed due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic (via Heavy).
Kodi Lee has picked up another skill
Kodi Lee came back to the stage and performed Harry Styles' "Sign of the Times" on the AGT: The Champions finale, though he didn't participate in the season as a contestant (via Billboard). Additionally, Fandom reported that Lee was invited to perform at the highly prestigious Carnegie Hall. His musical style is a melange of rock, R&B, pop, as well as jazz, and he continues to perform at local restaurants, wineries, and other musical events in Elsinore, California.
And while the coronavirus might be keeping Kodi from performing at larger concerts, for now, he's not letting that slow him down. In fact, he has picked up another skill: tap dancing. On both his Instagram and TikTok, you can catch Lee making some serious moves, both as a solo dancer as well as with his supportive siblings. With his infectious smile and amazing talent, it makes you wonder if there's anything that Kodi Lee can't do?
