Why RHOC May Get A Brand-New Cast

It seems The Real Housewives of Orange County is in the spotlight for all the wrong reasons. Cast member Kelly Dodd is turning a lot of viewers off after comments she made about both COVID-19 and the Black Lives Matter movement (via Us Weekly). According to Cheat Sheet, the reality TV star has made light of the illness that has killed more than half a million people to date, in part claiming about the pandemic, "It's God's way of thinning the herd" (via CDC). Many people perceived that Dodd does not grasp the seriousness of the BLM cause after she wore a cringeworthy hat that said "Drunk Wives Matter" at her bridal shower.

Even though former cast member Heather Dubrow is saying, "cancel culture is such a tricky thing because when there's gray area it's hard 'cause [it] can ruin people's lives and careers and whatnot," it seems social media is demanding a shake-up. In response to a rumor that Dodd may get fired, one Twitter user commented, "Fingers crossed it's for real this time #RHOC." Another directly appealed to Andy Cohen at Bravo, tweeting, "Watching #RHOC Reunion — @Andy you need to dump Kelly Dodd!"

Social media users took things a step further, not only calling for Dodd to be fired from RHOC, but then demanding the entire show be cancelled, with one Twitter user commenting, "You know what, cancel the whole thing. None of these women are redeemable. #CancelRHOC." Many people called out cast members other than Dodd, like in this tweet, "Cancel #RHOC @BravoTV @Andy #CancelRHOC or fire whoever cut this season or thank you for showing us that people like @ShannonBeador @RHOC_KellyDodd and @EmilySimpson_OC truly are disconnected from most Americans reality. Such trash."

The backlash against the controversial season has not gone unnoticed by Cohen, who responded to one tweet about canceling the series with another idea: "I think. you mean reBOOT" (via ET Online). In other words, perhaps the show will be purged of its current cast members — including Dodd, Shannon Beador, Emily Simpson, Braunwyn Windham-Burke, Gina Kirschenheiter, and Elizabeth Lyn Vargas. And fans will get a fresh, new cast.

Nothing has been confirmed yet, but we will be looking out for updates!
