The Biden Family Members That Still Aren't In The White House Yet
After being sworn in as the 46th President of the United States on January 20, 2021, Joe Biden wasted no time settling into the Oval Office and getting straight to work. He and his wife, First Lady Dr. Jill Biden, have also, of course, moved into their new home at 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue. But the entire Biden family isn't in the White House just yet.
According to CNN, the Biden family's dogs, Champ and Major, haven't made their big move from Delaware to D.C. Although their official move-in day is unclear, a source told the outlet that the German shepherds will be arriving "soon."
Donald Trump was the first president in 120 years who didn't have a dog during his time in office (via The Washington Post), so the dogs' arrival will mark a return to tradition.
Champ has already lived in Washington, D.C., for the eight years that Biden served as vice president, but it'll be Major's first time in the city. (We're sure Champ will be happy to show him around.)
Major will be the first shelter dog to live in the White House
When the Bidens decided they wanted to get a friend for Champ in 2018, their daughter, Ashley Biden, sent her dad a Facebook post about a litter of German shepherd puppies in need of foster homes, as reported by NPR.
"[Biden] just dropped in on Easter Sunday of all days ... and wanted to meet the puppies," Patrick Carroll, executive director of the Delaware Humane Association, told the outlet. The Bidens quickly decided to foster Major and later in the year they officially adopted him.
Two years later, another four-legged friend joined the Biden family. In late November 2020, shortly after Biden was elected president, Joe and Jill told CBS that they'd gotten a cat who will also live with them and the pups at The White House.
The four-legged members of the Biden family may not have arrived at 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue yet, but as NPR noted, the Delaware Humane Association already threw a virtual "indoguration" party for Major earlier in January.
