This Is The First Celeb To Get A Twitter Follow From The POTUS Account
On his first day as President of the United States, Joe Biden has been, understandably, busy. There have been ceremonies to attend, speeches to give, executive orders to sign, and, of course, a Twitter account to rebuild. After taking the reins of the White House over from a president who redefined the meaning of a "tweet" (and who was subsequently banned from the platform), Biden's first tweet as president, was scrutinized. At the time of this writing, and since his inauguration, Biden and his team have tweeted seven times from the official @potus account. But his pinned tweet, "The time to move forward is now," seems to apply as much to the country as it does to who the president will follow during his term.
To be clear, at this point, Biden has only followed 12 accounts. It's hard to tell what kind of precedents he is or isn't setting. Eleven of those accounts are closely tied to Biden's administration. One is not. It belongs to a celebrity that former president, Donald Trump, blocked for his tenure in office.
Biden follows Chrissy Teigen after unusual request
Need a backstory? Trump blocked Chrissy Teigen from his @realDonaldTrump account in July 2017, after snarking "Lolllllll no one likes you," at him. She documented the occasion on Twitter. Not that the block did much good. Teigen continued to make national headlines for her scathing, no holds barred, social media critiques of Trump until the very last days of his presidency (via HuffPost).
Of course, as President Biden recently tweeted, it's time to move forward. So, while her husband, John Legend, performed a tear-provoking rendition of "Feeling Good" at Joe Biden's presidential inauguration, Chrissy Teigen had a mission of her own. The model took to Twitter with an unusually forward request: "hello @joebiden I have been blocked by the president for four years can I get a follow plz?" she posted. Later, she clarified, "just a dumb joke because I am a loser lol." But Biden (or someone on the Biden team) was listening, and gave her a follow. Even Teigen was blown away. "My heart oh my god lmao I can finally see the president's tweets and they probably won't be unhinged," she then tweeted.
