The Truth About Gal Gadot's Marriage
Gal Gadot has undergone a stunning transformation; the actress who we all know best as Wonder Woman has quickly become one of the biggest stars to rock the silver screen. Her amazing acting skills have made her an A-list celebrity, but behind the scenes, Gadot has a second secret to her success. "It also has a lot to do with my husband, who is really supportive and makes everything so much easier," she told Interview magazine. In fact, Gadot never would have become Wonder Woman if it weren't for the support of her husband, Jaron Varsano, who encouraged her not to give up on her dream of making it big.
While much of Gadot's life is kept out of the spotlight, she's made it clear many times that she has a pretty great sidekick. "He's the best," she told Baby magazine. "I love every moment I spend with him and my daughters."
So what exactly is it like to be married to Wonder Woman herself? Read on for the truth about Gal Gadot's marriage.
Gal Gadot met her husband at a yoga retreat
In a world where many modern couples meet online, Gal Gadot met her man in the middle of the desert. In 2006, she was attending a "very strange party in the Israeli desert," she described to Glamour, that was "all about yoga, chakras, and eating healthy." Though she didn't have as much interest in the event as her friend that brought her there, a man named Jaron Varsano caught her eye, and it ended up being a pretty great party after all.
When the two began talking, they instantly clicked. They had their first kiss the very next morning, traveled back together to the town of Tel Aviv, and began dating only days after (via Vogue). Though they won't be attending another yoga party together anytime soon, stepping out of their comfort zones definitely paid off. "We didn't exactly find ourselves there," Gadot said. "But we found each other."
Jaron Varsano is 10 years older than Gal Gadot
From the very first day that they met, Gal Gadot was determined to date her now-husband, Jaron Varsano. In fact, she even broke the unspoken rule about waiting three days to call him. "I was like, 'Is this too early to call you? I want to have a date,'" she reminisced in an interview with Vogue. Luckily, Varsano was as excited about their burgeoning relationship as she was. He's 10 years older than Gadot, and at his age, he was ready to settle down and was looking for something serious.
Gadot fell fast for her husband, and even from the start, she seemed to know he was the one. At least, "I think I did," she told Glamour. "But I was too young to get it." However, seeing as he was so much older than she was, he understood where his feelings stood with her almost immediately.
He knew she was the one during their second date
Ever since they first met, Gal Gadot and Jaron Varsano's relationship was different than anything either had experienced before. From the get-go, the two decided that they were going to be up front with each other about how they were feeling. "Both of us said, 'No games,'" Gadot explained in a chat with Glamour. "Let's just be honest and keep it simple."
So when they got back from their yoga retreat, Gadot immediately told Varsano that she was up for a second date. While she was quickly falling for her husband, he was falling just as hard. "By the second date he told me, 'I'm going to marry you,'" she revealed to Vogue. "'I'm going to wait for two years, but we're going to get married.' I was like, 'Fine.'"
Though Gadot admits she may have been too young at the time to truly understand how Varsano was feeling, it ended up working out for both of them. Two years later, they tied the knot. "A man of his word," Gadot told Vanity Fair.
Gal Gadot's engagement story is a secret
While the way they met is a true love story in itself, Gal Gadot and Jaron Varsano's engagement story is not one for the books. "I'm going to keep that story to myself," Gadot told reporters in 2016 at a renovation celebration for Tiffany & Co. (via The Hollywood Reporter). To this day, nobody seems to know how the two got engaged — only that, of course, it was "very special."
One thing we do know is that this adorable couple got married in an intimate wedding ceremony in Israel in 2008 (via Vanity Fair), long before Gadot graced our screens as Wonder Woman.
Even after entering into the entertainment industry — where powerful couples seem to split left and right — Gadot and Varsano have remained faithful to each other for over a decade. "You're my one. My only. My everything," Gadot wrote in a special Instagram post dedicated to Varsano. "12 years of marriage feels like a walk in the park with you. To many more to come. I'm yours forever."
Gal Gadot and her husband are both military veterans
Few fans know that Gal Gadot served in the Israel Defense Forces way before she became Wonder Woman. In fact, she met her husband, Jaron Varsano, while she was still enlisted — and he's a military veteran too. "In Israel, it's a mandatory thing and you have this service for at least two years," Gadot explained to Interview magazine.
Gadot enrolled in the service when she was only 20 years old, training other soldiers how to be able to serve too. At the time, she was fresh out of school, and her time in the military truly changed the trajectory of her life. After all, it helped Gadot secure her breakthrough role in the "Fast & Furious" franchise. According to Vogue, Justin Lin, who has directed some of the movies in the franchise, had heard all about her experience with weapons and was interested in locking down Gadot for the part.
He convinced her not to quit acting
In 2015, Gal Gadot decided she'd had enough of acting. "There's so much rejection in this world that I was like, 'Wow! Maybe it's not for me,'" she admitted on an episode of "Today." At the time, her husband and daughter were flying back and forth with her from Israel to LA in order to book roles, and it just didn't seem worth it anymore. Deep down, Gadot hated Hollywood, and she began debating going back to law school instead. Jaron Varsano, however, was the one who convinced Gadot to keep at it.
Having a baby was hard enough, but leaving her at home while Gadot went to work was even harder. "My husband told me, 'What kind of role model do you want to be? You love to work, you love to challenge yourself,'" she told Female First. Gadot ultimately decided she wanted her daughter to see her following her dreams, so she kept on acting.
In the end, it's a good thing she did. Two weeks later, she auditioned for "Wonder Woman," and her life — and her husband's life — changed forever.
They used to run a hotel together
When Gal Gadot met Jaron Varsano, he was a real estate developer. However, she was the one who inspired him to open up a hotel. It all started when the two began traveling around the world for Gadot's movies; they realized the real estate opportunity they had at hand. "We found ourselves staying in hotels all the time," Gadot told Totally Jewish. "We wanted to feel at home."
Back in Israel, they found the perfect place for it. "Literally a 30-second walk from where Jaron and I were living," Gadot described in an interview with Vogue. It was an old mansion that needed some serious updating, but one that Varsano was very familiar with. In fact, he and his brother had lived there before he fell in love with Gadot.
Though she had no real estate experience, Gadot ended up becoming so involved with the property that she was even seen on occasion changing bed sheets in each room. In 2015, right when she was busy making her debut as Wonder Woman, the dynamic duo ended up selling the hotel for more than $20 million (via Mail Online).
Gal Gadot and Jaron Varsano kept her pregnancy a secret
While all mothers are true superheroes, Gal Gadot was playing one when she became pregnant with her second daughter. She had just booked her big role as Wonder Woman in "Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice." It was exciting, but the news about Gadot's pregnancy was one she and her husband decided to keep top secret. "I didn't say anything to anyone," she revealed on "Live with Kelly and Ryan." The reason? Gadot didn't want to receive any special treatment, and wanted to be expected to do anything that her male co-stars did on set (via Allure). However, Gadot's morning sickness didn't make it easy. "How I didn't throw up on the guys is a miracle," she admitted to Baby magazine.
When Gadot landed her own solo superhero film, "Wonder Woman," the pregnancy was a bit harder for her and her husband to hide. When it came time for re-shoots, Gadot was five months pregnant. "They cut a big triangle [on my stomach] and painted it green" in order to work against a green screen, she revealed to Entertainment Tonight.
How many children do they have?
It was in 2011 that Gal Gadot and Jaron Varsano added "parents" to their long list of achievements. "I always wanted to be a young mother," Gadot explained to InStyle.
After enjoying parenthood with their first daughter, Alma, they eventually added even more additions to their family. In 2017, they welcomed Maya into the world, and in 2021, their daughter Daniella arrived in their growing family. "Now we're whole," Gadot said on "The Late Late Show with James Corden." "We've been expecting her the whole time, and now it feels so good."
So, are these two expecting to add any more Wonder Women-in-training to their trio of kids? It seems safe to say that the answer is yes. "I love giving birth," Gadot admitted to InStyle. "I would do it once a week if I could. It's so magical. ... Just the moment you feel like you're creating life, it's incredible."
Gal Gadot's husband follows her around the world for her work
As soon as Gal Gadot's career took off, she began traveling all over the world for shoots. "Wonder Woman 1984," for instance, had her working nearly everywhere. From shooting stateside in Washington, D.C. to being on location in both Spain and London, it doesn't seem like Gadot gets to spend much time with her family. However, after over a decade of marriage with Jaron Varsano, there is a secret to her success. "We travel together," she revealed in an interview with Vanity Fair.
Luckily, being an actress can actually be pretty flexible, too. Gadot works a few months out of the year, and then takes a few months off to focus on her family full-time (via Interview magazine). Yet, even with that being the case, Gadot doesn't go anywhere without her two daughters. "We're the circus family," she quipped. "I love what I do, but first and foremost is my family and I won't travel for long periods of time without them."
From filming in the land of Themyscira for "Wonder Woman" to being back in Gadot's hometown in Israel, this actress sure gets the best of both worlds!
Though they spend a lot of time in Hollywood, they still consider Israel home
Even though Gal Gadot has become a big Hollywood name, she and her husband, Jaron Varsano, continue to call Israel their home. "I get to enjoy both worlds," she explained in a 2011 interview with Totally Jewish.
Traveling back and forth can be difficult for Gadot, but there's a reason they don't like to reside stateside; their daughters played a big part in this decision. "Going through all of these experiences and meeting new people and going to different countries and cultures, you can only gain from it," Gadot shared with Interview magazine, and it's certainly had an effect on their young girls. Her daughters are now able to speak both Hebrew and English.
To be able to spend some time in Israel, Gadot has even auditioned for acting roles there, too. "It's really important for me that I continue working on features and dramas in Israel while also working in the U.S.," she continued. Yet, seeing how her career in Hollywood is going now, we're sure she and her husband will start spending a lot more time in the states.
The two run a production company together
Traveling all over the world together has kept both Gal Gadot and her husband, Jaron Varsano, very busy. Once "Wonder Woman" took off, Varsano even sold all of his real estate in order to be available for his wife. However, when he was left questioning his next career move, Varsano and Gadot decided to do something together. "You're a developer. Develop movies," Gadot told him (via Vogue). So in 2019, Gadot and Varsano formed their own production company called Pilot Wave Motion Pictures.
With a majority of their projects featuring female empowerment — after all, they're all produced by the actress who plays Wonder Woman — it's clear that Gadot's husband is extremely supportive of his superstar wife. "I truly believe that together we're making a true impact by sharing these incredible stories that will empower, lift, and inspire women (and men) all over the world," Gadot shared on Instagram.
He had a movie cameo that meant everything to her
Gal Gadot's husband plays such a supportive role in her life that she opted to officially give him a supporting role — literally. When "Wonder Woman 1984" was released, fans did a double take when it was revealed that Jaron Varsano had a cameo in the film.
Blink and you just may miss it, but toward the end, a snowball is thrown by none other than Gadot and Varsano's oldest daughter, Alma. A few seconds later, Varsano is seen on the merry-go-round with their younger daughter Maya. "It meant a lot, especially in that very special scene," Gadot told Kevin McCarthy in an interview.
Since Gadot's husband has supported her throughout her entire career, it only made sense to have him be a part of it. "This movie is more than just a movie for us," she continued. Getting cast as Wonder Woman completely changed Gadot's life, and if her husband had never convinced her to stick with acting, she never would have had the opportunity to play her. "I couldn't have done the movie without the support of my amazing family," she added.
In their off time, the couple enjoys bike riding
However busy they may be, it's not just all work and no play for Gal Gadot and Jaron Varsano. "On my days off I like to pose on bridges," Gadot posted to Instagram alongside a photo of herself on a bike. It's not the only image out there of her enjoying herself on two wheels either; quite often, the two have been spotted biking together.
While riding bicycles is a leisurely activity that Gadot and Varsano can enjoy together, it wasn't always that way. During the time that Gadot was filming "Fast & Furious," she had an off-screen hobby that took this love a little further: she enjoyed driving a motorcycle. However, when Gadot and her husband's first daughter was born in 2011, Gadot declared to Interview magazine that this was too dangerous and that she was "done."
Riding a bicycle is definitely a whole lot safer, and it's a much easier activity for Gadot to do with her husband by her side. "Cherishing and thankful for these precious moments," Varsano shared alongside a biking selfie on Instagram.
They will always put their family first
While playing Wonder Woman has been an absolute dream come true for Gal Gadot, she and her husband, Jaron Varsano, will always put their family before anything else. "I may play a goddess in 'Wonder Woman,' but I feel like a true goddess after giving birth and being the mother of two beautiful daughters," Gadot proclaimed in an interview with Baby magazine.
One of the first things Gadot even thinks about before taking a role is the effect it will have on her daughters; the films she chooses have to be flexible enough for her to have family time. So far, being an actress has been extremely manageable for Gadot (via Interview magazine). However, now that she and her husband are producing movies too, their schedule is bound to get even more hectic. "But even though we are both busy with our work, family life comes first," Gadot continued. "I am a very, very happy woman who can hardly wait to come home to my family every time I finish work on a film."
Gal Gadot learned how to ski for her husband
Gal Gadot may be an actor who's always seen starring in action-packed roles, but when it comes to embarking on some other adventures behind the scenes, she may like to play it a little more safe. Skiing down a mountain (which we could definitely imagine one of her iconic characters doing), for example, is something Gadot never spent time learning to do until she met her husband, Jaron Varsano. "Love you so freaking much that I learned how to ski for you," she wrote in an anniversary tribute to him on Instagram in 2019, adding, "God knows how much I don't like the cold."
While this actor may not enjoy the low temperatures, she's sure enjoyed skiing with the love of her life over the years. Since first stepping onto skis, the two have taken multiple trips to the mountains with friends and family.
They like to keep their life together on the down low
For being a couple who spends an awful lot of time in the spotlight, Gal Gadot and Jaron Varsano like to keep their private life out of it — especially when it comes to their children. "They're the only thing I make sure to keep as private as possible," Gadot explained during an interview with InStyle. "I want them to be naïve and safe and protected."
Fans of theirs know that they'll only see photos of Gadot and Varsano on social media. Whenever the couple does share any photos of their children, many times their faces are kept covered with emojis. However, when the two introduced the world to their third daughter, Daniella, the world did get a sneak peek at all the faces of the members of their family.
Unfortunately, we probably won't be seeing anymore family photos anytime soon. "I share a lot," Gadot admitted, adding, "But as far as my family goes, I'm very protective."
