Why Kate And William Aren't Moving Back To Kensington Palace
The palace that served as home base for Prince William and Prince Harry since they were children appears to have empty halls these days. Since the start of the pandemic, the Cambridges have taken up residence at their Norfolk home, Anmer Hall, Marie Claire reports. Apparently, the family will not be returning to London as they usually do following the holiday break.
The UK has just imposed a third round of lockdowns amid rising numbers of COVID-19 cases, and the royal couple chose to stay out of London throughout this time. The Mirror also reports that William and Kate will homeschool their children from this location and will likely work with their various charities and organizations from the country estate. The outlet explains that the royals spent most of their spring and summer seasons at Anmer Hall, learning how to homeschool their children like other families around the globe.
Apparently, other children who attend Prince George and Princess Charlotte's school initially returned to classes before the government's announcement of school closings, but the Windsors stayed home, Marie Claire states. Currently, classrooms are not expected to reopen until February — at the earliest.
It looks like Zoom calls and video conferences will be on the family's schedule for the next few months.
Prince Louis' first school experience is being delayed
Besides George and Charlotte, the Cambridges' youngest child, Prince Louis, is also being impacted by this turn of events. Hello! Magazine reports that Louis was set to begin nursery school at the start of this year, much like his older siblings did at his age. However, his parents have yet to announce his start at school, meaning that the youngest will likely stay home for the foreseeable future.
As for homeschooling, both William and Kate have voiced their insights following their work as stand-in teachers. William said that he learned his "patience is a lot shorter than I thought it was... And that my wife has a lot of patience. I was a bit embarrassed about my maths knowledge — I can't do Year 2 Maths!" on That Peter Crouch Podcast (via Hello!).
As for Kate, she explained that George is having a hard time doing his upper-level work when he sees his sister's. "George gets very upset because he wants to do Charlotte's projects. Because making things like spider sandwiches is far cooler than doing literacy work," she said on This Morning, Hello! reports.
Since all three children's schools are located in London, the family's decision to stay in Norfolk shows that a forthcoming return to classes is unlikely.
