What Happened To Nadine Coyle From Girls Aloud?
Nadine Coyle became a reality TV sensation before reality TV was even really a thing when, after winning Irish talent search Popstars, she was caught in a lie about her age. Coyle was immediately disqualified, due to being too young to take part. Thankfully, Six, the group created by the show, didn't go anywhere. Girls Aloud, who were formed on another reality TV-based talent search (Popstars: The Rivals), did and Coyle quickly became a household name thanks to her demonstrable talent.
The girl group enjoyed a successful, decade-long career before splitting in 2013 amidst rumors of in-fighting and jealousy. The biggest solo star to emerge from the group is undoubtedly Cheryl Cole, however Coyle is widely considered the best singer — an assertion that, according to manager Louis Walsh for Entertainment.ie, was what ultimately killed Girls Aloud. Regardless, the Derry native's post-girl group career has blossomed in unexpected and often wonderful ways.
Music remains as Nadine Coyle's first love
Her time with Girls Aloud was often difficult. Coyle was just 17 when she moved to London and joined the group in 2002, which she admitted was a tough transition. These days, they're all cordial, but still not best friends, as the Derry native told OK!, "It's just the way it's always been," she reasoned. In spite of the highly-publicized issues between them, Coyle confirmed Girls Aloud were in talks to reunite in 2022, ahead of their 20th anniversary.
Speaking on the Thanks A Million podcast, Coyle revealed, "There's been loads of conversations and people now are getting in contact, like, 'What do we do?' It's still early," (via NME). She been consistently releasing solo stuff, however, sharing single "All That I Know" on her Instagram in January 2020 and thanking fans for the positive response. Coyle did turn down one opportunity though — to be on The Masked Singer, telling OK! it felt "too close" to her day job.
Nadine Coyle is a dedicated mother
Coyle returned to reality TV with I'm a Celebrity...Get Me Out of Here! in 2019, admitting on Thanks A Million that she'd always wanted to go to the jungle, even if living without her creature comforts was tough (via The Sun). Referring to her many achievements in the post-Girls Aloud years, she told the Belfast Telegraph, "I've opened a restaurant, had a record label, had my daughter and it was go, go, go." Her personal life has been just as busy. Coyle was with former NFL player Jason Lee for more than a decade.
The two welcomed daughter Anaiya in 2014 but called time on their relationship in 2019. However, as Hello! notes, they've consistently sparked reunion rumors thanks to sweet social media snaps of their little family together. The former couple actually lives near each other in London, too. Elsewhere, Coyle is in talks to appear in Derry Girls, as per the Belfast Telegraph, so evidently she prefers to be busy rather than not.
