Scarlett Johansson Has Some Thoughts About Her Iconic Nickname

JLo, JLaw, ScarJo. These are celebrity nicknames we have grown accustomed to — and haven't really spent too much time questioning. But have you ever stopped to wonder how the stars they reference might actually feel about these terms of media endearment?

Well, we're pretty sure Jennifer Lopez loves her nickname, since she references it on her Instagram, and has a line of products called JLo Beauty. But what about Scarlett Johansson? Is she equally comfortable with what she has come to be known by, well, everywhere? Um, let's just say the actress is less than thrilled about the nickname, and in fact, has spoken out about how she feels about it for years.

"I associate that name with, like, pop stars," Johansson told Glamour in 2014, adding, It sounds tacky. It's lazy and flippant." But that isn't all the Lost in Translation star had to say about being called ScarJo. It turns out she actually takes affront to those six little letters.

Scarlett Johansson's reaction to her nickname is somewhat confusing

Beyond just finding ScarJo "lazy" and "tacky," Johansson seems to find the nickname truly upsetting, also telling Glamour, "And there's something kind of violent about it." We aren't sure exactly what she means, but she didn't even stop there, adding, "There's something insulting about it."

Okay, so it's safe to say the star is not a fan. Of course, her reaction is slightly puzzling, since the fact that she has earned a nickname like ScarJo simply means she is uber famous. But maybe there is some precedence here for the 36-year-old to say things that don't sit right with some people, with Flare calling her "the queen of putting her foot in her mouth," and referencing her support for the controversial director Woody Allen, as well as her decision to play an Asian character in the movie Ghost In The Shell. Meanwhile, Metro U.K. notes she is known for her many "face-palming quotes."

To be fair, it's her nickname and she can feel how she wants about it — even if several outlets are similarly scratching their heads about why she hates it so much. We'll let Johansson have the last word. As she questioned in 2011 per Bustle, "People can't actually say the whole name? It's just bizarre ... so Cate Blanchett is not, like, 'CaBla'?" Got it.
