Dakota Johnson's Mysterious New Ring Is Turning Heads

Are wedding bells on the horizon for Dakota Johnson and Coldplay frontman Chris Martin? Rumors that the pair plans to tie the knot are swirling after photos of Johnson wearing a giant emerald ring on her left finger emerged, as reported by Page Six.

The photos were reportedly taken while the 50 Shades of Grey star was out shopping in West Hollywood earlier this month (via Us Weekly). Aside from the noticeable bling on that finger, Johnson kept it casual in a long fur coat, sneakers, and (of course) a face mask. Aside from a brief split in 2019, the couple's romance has stayed strong and drama-free. Johnson has even developed a friendly relationship with Martin's ex-wife Gwyneth Paltrow, which is a major bonus given that they share a teenage daughter and son who just may become Johnson's stepchildren.

The couple has kept the details of their relationship private, but here's what we do know.

Dakota Johnson and Chris Martin were first linked in 2017

As reported by Elle, rumors of a relationship first surfaced in October 2017 when Johnson and Martin were seen eating a sushi dinner together in Los Angeles. Johnson was spotted at a Coldplay concert in Buenos Aires the following month and in December multiple sources confirmed to Us Weekly that they were "definitely dating."

People reported that, in true Modern Family style, Gwyneth Paltrow made an effort to welcome Johnson into the family. (Paltrow and Martin share two children from their marriage: Daughter Apple, 16, and son Moses, 14). Paltrow, who married TV producer Brad Falchuk in 2018, even suggested that Johnson be included in family vacations, a source told the outlet.

The relationship hit a bump in the road in June 2019 when multiple reports confirmed that the two had decided to go their separate ways (via Harper's Bazaar). But the split didn't last long — just a month and a half after it was announced, Us Weekly reported that Johnson and Martin had gotten back together.

It's been smooth sailing since their reconciliation, and they even collaborated professionally when Johnson directed the Coldplay music video "Cry Cry Cry" (via InStyle) earlier this year. It looks like their next trip may be a walk down the aisle.
