But talent aside, Wilson has also proven to fans that she can be an inspiration, too. In 2020, Wilson set out on a journey, claiming 2020 as her "year of health," striving to shed a few pounds along the way.

And she did just that. In fact, Rebel Wilson revealed an impressive weight loss of 40 pounds and counting in 2020, and she truly seems to be the healthiest and happiest she's ever been. But just how did Wilson go from being dubbed as "Fat Amy" to her new nickname, "Fit Amy?" Well, it turns out that Wilson has learned a lot about herself and her habits in just one year. And in addition to exercise, what Rebel Wilson eats in a day will prove that the superstar has found the perfect healthy balance to achieve and maintain all her goals.

Before 2020, Rebel Wilson didn't eat very healthy

As Rebel Wilson learned in 2020, being healthy is all about balance. Even if you want to drop a few pounds, that doesn't mean you can't have a slice of cake every now and then. However, before she started her health journey, Wilson was eating a lot more than just a slice of cake every now and then. Prior to 2020, what Wilson ate in a day might shock you.

In an interview with People, Wilson shared that before her year of health kicked off, she didn't eat very healthy at all. "Before I was probably eating 3,000 calories most days, and because they were normally carbs, I would still be hungry," she revealed. Wilson added that time off work helped her to form a healthier relationship with food. "I think I was emotional eating, and overeating at times, because I wasn't loving myself enough either," she continued. "And it does come down to that self-worth and self-love."

While Wilson used to eat a ton of calories and carbs every day, that's in the past. No wonder Rebel Wilson has undergone a stunning transformation!

Rebel Wilson makes sure to eat plenty of protein

Obviously, an all-carb diet isn't exactly the healthiest way to eat, so when Rebel Wilson changed up her diet to lose weight, one of the first things she added in more of was protein. Additionally, while Wilson eats plenty of protein every day, she doesn't just drink protein shakes. Rather, the actor gets her fuel from whole foods and lean proteins, and that's probably what's made her weight loss journey so incredible.

During an appearance on The Drew Barrymore Show, Wilson revealed that she'd come to the conclusion that "fads and diets" weren't for her. "For my body type, I needed to eat a lot more protein," she shared. In an interview with People, Wilson also revealed that protein made a huge difference in her diet. "So, I've really changed to eating a high-protein diet, which is challenging because I didn't used to eat a lot of meat," she said. "I eat fish, salmon, and chicken breast."

Getting enough protein in every day can be a challenge, but for Wilson, it's just part of her daily routine.

Rebel Wilson doesn't eat a lot of sugar

For Rebel Wilson to maintain her new trim figure, it requires a bit of discipline. Specifically, Wilson has to hold off on consuming too much sugar, which obviously isn't healthy, but is very tempting. In a January 2020 Instagram post in which she dubbed it her "year of health," Wilson explained that she was "trying to avoid the sugar and junk food," no matter how hard that was for her.

Then, in an interview on The Drew Barrymore Show, Wilson said that sugar was one thing she had to steer clear from. "I never really focused on my health, which was probably obvious," she explained. "I was going all around the world jet-setting everywhere and eating a ton of sugar."

Wilson added that she'd been following a sugar-heavy diet and needed more balance every day. "That was kind of my vice," she continued. "I have a very sweet tooth. I love desserts." Honestly, who doesn't love dessert? But for Wilson, not eating sugar every day was a big part in slimming down and getting her health on track. That's what happens to your body when you cut out sugar!

Rebel Wilson cut back on carbs

While any healthy diet is comprised of plenty of protein, fats, fiber, and carbs, those essential macronutrients can impact your health if you don't get enough of each. As for Rebel Wilson, she has to mindfully eat protein and fat every day, as well as limit her carb intake for the right balance. That isn't to say that Wilson doesn't eat fruits or vegetables, but processed carbs aren't part of her daily diet.

During her appearance on The Drew Barrymore Show, Wilson revealed that while she took the time to focus on her mental health, "on the nutritional side, my diet was mainly all carbs, which are delicious," but weren't ideal for her specific needs. Additionally, Wilson has been linked to a certain nutritional method, the Mayr Method, which also limits carbs and encourages a more whole-foods approach, in addition to other tactics.

Wilson may love her carbs, but they don't love her back, which is why she doesn't eat them every day. And if you're curious, this is how to know if you're eating too many carbs.

Rebel Wilson probably doesn't snack

Despite the incredible progress Rebel Wilson made with her health in 2020, the Pitch Perfect star wanted more. In November, Wilson went back to the VivaMayr Resort in Austria in order to finish out her "year of health" strong. "I went back because 2021 is going to be an insanely busy year with project after project, so I wanted to come back to VivaMayr," Wilson told People, also adding that she wanted to "boost my immune system and lose my last two kilos." At the VivaMayr Resort, there isn't really any snacking, as is standard with the Mayr Method.

Specifically, as People reported, the VivaMayr Resort practically eliminates their clients' snacking habits, so it's safe to say that Wilson has become less of a snacker in 2020. However, with health as her main focus, there's a chance Wilson might snack here and there. However, she hasn't mentioned snacking at all as part of her daily diet, and has stated that she mainly focuses on filling up with protein, which means snacking wouldn't even be necessary.

Rebel Wilson limits her daily dairy and gluten intake

When it comes to what Rebel Wilson eats in a day, there are two ingredients that she tries to steer clear of. As Wilson is an adherent of the Mayr Method, she has limited dairy and gluten, and she has truly adopted that lifestyle. "Everything starts with the gut," Dr. Christine Stossier, assistant medical director of VivaMayr, explained in an interview with The Guardian

Because of the focus on the gut, the Mayr Method typically has clients eliminate dairy and gluten, as they are commonly found to be the food groups most people have an intolerance to. And, it seems that Wilson is totally fine limiting her dairy intake, as the star has found a way to still enjoy ice cream on a regular basis. On her Instagram story, she shared a picture of herself enjoying a dairy-free ice cream. "I may be biased but this is the BEST healthy ice-cream out there!" she wrote over the photo (via Hello!)

A diet that lets you eat ice cream every day? Sounds perfect!

Does Rebel Wilson have a soft spot for this restaurant?

It might be obvious that Rebel Wilson values her health and eats mindfully, but that doesn't mean she always has time for a gourmet meal, or even an appetite for one. And as it turns out, Wilson might have a soft spot for a certain chain restaurant, and you wouldn't blame her if she did.

Technically, Wilson has partnered up with UberEats, Hinge, and Chipotle to promote the restaurant's new limited-edition Cuffing Season Menu, so she's getting paid to post about Chipotle. But, that doesn't mean she isn't a genuine fan of the build-your-own Mexican establishment. Additionally, Wilson's Chipotle partnership could mean that a few lucky customers will win some dating advice from the star (via QSR).

Chipotle might not be something Wilson consumes every day, but as the restaurant has plenty of options and locations just about everywhere, it could be part of her diet. And, according to one dietician, Chipotle has plenty of healthy choices available to make a meal that is rich in protein and vegetables (via Good Housekeeping). That definitely sounds like it fits on Wilson's diet plan!

Drinking different beverages is allowed on Rebel Wilson's diet

In addition to getting in plenty of protein and eating mindfully every day, Rebel Wilson also has changed up her drinking habits. Though the actor still gets in plenty of fun drinks like champagne once in a while, she doesn't consume massive amounts of sugary beverages every day. Instead, Wilson prefers to consume diet soda, and it seems like it's part of her regular eating pattern.

In particular, Wilson appears to be fond of Diet Coke, a sugar-free alternative to the regular. And while diet soda offers no real health benefits in and of itself, it can still be helpful for weight loss in terms of reducing calorie and sugar intake. "If a zero-calorie diet drink is the drink of choice instead of its 300-calorie, full sugar counterpart, then that simple switch could make a big difference to your waistline," coach and nutritionist Scott Baptie told Insider. So, Wilson choosing a Diet Coke over another, higher-calorie beverage every day is a great option for her.

Rebel Wilson doesn't restrict herself too much

It's practically impossible to stick to a diet of pure protein and veggies all day every day. So, with that in mind, it makes sense that Rebel Wilson doesn't restrict herself too much. While she might not indulge in some delicious treats and meals every day, Wilson also doesn't shy away from getting fast food or another kind of treat.

In an interview with People, Wilson shared that she aims for balance, not perfection. "I'm just trying to go for overall balance, overall healthy balance," she revealed. "I have this state of being, which is not my quote, but I go 'Nothing is forbidden.' We'll be like, 'Should we get In-N-Out burger?' And I'm like, 'Nothing is forbidden.'" The trick is simply that Wilson eats half as much as she used to while there.

Additionally, on her Instagram stories, Wilson shared an adorable photo of herself at a table surrounded by bread. Yes, bread. As if that wasn't enough, she later showed that she was indulging in fresh churros with some seriously delicious-looking dipping sauces on the side.

Rebel Wilson will likely continue to follow the Mayr Method

Throughout Rebel Wilson's year of health, the actor has likely learned a lot. But as far as what she eats in a day, it can all be summed up with the diet plan that she first started losing weight with. Wilson has reportedly followed the Mayr Method diet plan since she kicked off her year of health in 2020.

The eating plan focuses on mindful eating, but that's not all. A source close to Wilson told People that there's a reason the actor had such success and was so pleased with the Mayr Method. "It's an approach that eliminates food intolerances, reduces sugar, encourages eating whole foods slowly, boosts the immune system, and reduces inflammation," the insider said.

Additionally, according to Jezebel, meals at the VivaMayr Resort, where Wilson has been more than once, are pretty delicious. For instance, lunch on one day was "a pureed fennel-and-potato soup and fresh fish with roasted and creamed root vegetables." There was an emphasis on root vegetables because of their alkalizing properties. It's no wonder Wilson was able to adhere to the plan so well, and will likely continue to do so.
