What You Don't Know About Becky G And Jennifer Lopez's Friendship

Fans of Becky G already know the artist has idolized Jennifer Lopez since long before her "Becky from the Block" tribute. The song came about naturally, because she wanted to remake something that really inspired her, and in her own words: "that was Jenny from the Block" (via Access Hollywood).

Becky G was quick to clarify, "Obviously I was no J.Lo, like I still am no J.Lo," but she couldn't shake the thought: "'How cool would it be if J.Lo just heard this?'" Well, not only did Lopez hear the song, she made a cameo in the music video! The support meant a lot for Becky G, who has looked up to Lopez from a very young age, as she discussed tonight during the pre-show for the 2020 People's Choice Awards, stating (via E! News), "[She] showed me that the sky is the limit. Never take no as an answer."

Of course, this professional admiration is no secret. Back in 2015, Becky G gushed (via Miami New Times), "Doesn't every Latina want to be the next J.Lo? J.Lo has always been my idol. I could only hope to be blessed like she has been in her career. I've been lucky enough to have met her and she is a wonderful person. She's given me great advice and she's has [sic] been nothing but sweet to me. I truly admire her."

Here's what J.Lo has to say about Becky G

Before the two ever met, Jennifer Lopez listened to Becky G's "Becky from the Block" and her reaction was heartwarming: "I heard it and I was like, 'Oh, that's so cute.' It was really adorable" (via Access Hollywood). However, while most artists might have left it there, Lopez decided to show her support for Becky G by actually appearing in the "Becky from the Block" music video. Why? Because she's just that cool, obviously. In Lopez's own words: "Supporting another little Latina artist, for me, is a pleasure."

It's been seven years since that cameo, and Becky G's success has shown no signs of slowing down. At the 2020 People's Choice Awards, she is up for Latin Artist of 2020, against Bad Bunny, Daddy Yankee, J Balvin, Karol G, Maluma, Nicky Jam, and Ozuna (via E! Online). J.Lo, meanwhile, has already been announced as the winner of the People's Icon Award, which she will be accepting later on in the evening.
