The Surprising Way Trisha Yearwood And Garth Brooks First Met
Trisha Yearwood and Garth Brooks are one of the most enduring and impressive couples in Hollywood, never mind country music. They've been together forever and frequently create wonderful music that complements their equally impressive careers. The way Brooks proposed to Yearwood is emblematic of how swoon-worthy their courtship was overall, but it's worth noting that when their paths first crossed, neither of them was anything close to a country superstar just yet.
They got married back in 2005 but were friends for many years prior to embarking on a romantic relationship and, in keeping with how they became frequent duet and touring partners, the couple first met because of a song. As Brooks explained during a 2013 appearance on "The Ellen Show," songwriter Kent Blazy introduced him to Yearwood all the way back in 1987, before Brooks had even released his debut album. Both singers were married at the time but, as Brooks explained on "Ellen," he felt like he'd just met his wife with Yearwood. His soon-to-be-wife, meanwhile, admitted to CMT, "We hit it off. But I had no idea he'd turn out to be Garth Brooks!" She did confess to Parade, however, that Brooks was clearly the one but Yearwood just didn't realize it back then. At the time, he promised to take Yearwood out on tour with him, which he naturally did many times over in the subsequent years as the two remained good friends.
Brooks was married to Sandy Mahl, whom he'd tied the knot with just a year before meeting Yearwood, as per US Weekly, while Yearwood was wife to Chris Latham, as noted by Good Housekeeping. Although Yearwood divorced Latham, she got married again in 1994, to Robert Reynolds. Brooks, on the other hand, didn't divorce Mahl until 2000. Thankfully, fate lined the couple up and they finally began dating. The rest is (country) history.
