The Truth About Kyle Chrisley's Relationship With His Father
Long-time fans of Chrisley Knows Best are aware that overbearing, but well-meaning, patriarch Todd Chrisley doesn't have the perfect family he often projects to the outside world. For one thing, the two oldest Chrisley kids disappeared from the show following its debut season. Lindsie, Todd's daughter from a previous relationship, remains estranged from her father while son Kyle's relationship with the beloved reality star is more complicated.
Back in 2014, a police report uncovered by Radar Online detailed how Kyle allegedly threatened to kill Todd while under the influence of drugs. Kyle was hospitalized following the incident, and later lashed out at Todd in a Daily Mail interview, all of which led Todd to reveal that Kyle was let go from the family's reality show after he became combative with the production staff. A whole slew of public spats between the two followed, which, unfortunately, spilled over into the next five years or so. Are they still fighting constantly, or have the father-son duo since managed to bury the hatchet and move forward?
Todd Chrisley fought with Kyle for several years
Season 1 of Chrisley Knows Best highlighted Kyle Chrisley's ongoing issues with drugs, which ultimately led to Todd Chrisley getting full custody of his son's daughter, Chloe Chrisley, who's since become a fan favorite on the reality series. At the time, Kyle told the Daily Mail that his father only wanted his granddaughter, who Kylie identified as "a mixed race child," to be featured on Chrisley Knows Best "because it would appeal to his key demographic" (to say there was bad blood between them would be a vast understatement).
As TMZ notes, Kyle was charged with felony possession of methamphetamine in 2019 after police discovered drugs in his car. However, the charges were dropped due to an outstanding warrant for his arrest in Georgia, which was issued after Kyle allegedly threatened to kill his estranged wife, Alexus Chrisley, whom Todd previously accused of attempted extortion (phew). Meanwhile, Kyle's family was urgently encouraging him to get into rehab, fearing the worst might happen.
Kyle Chrisley and his father are on good terms again
Although there's been plenty of drama between them, Todd and Kyle Chrisley appear to have finally sorted things. In a lengthy 2019 Facebook post, Kyle explained, "My mom [Julie Chrisley] and dad raised me. I haven't been the best dad to Chloe, I've had a problem with drugs, I've acted completely ridiculous and through all that they have stood by my side." Kyle approached his father to apologize and, "His words were 'I love you always, and you are forgiven' and just like that I was welcomed back into his life with open arms. I will be forever grateful for his love [and] graciousness."
Early in 2020, Kyle posted a sweet birthday message for Todd, writing, "Despite everything I've done wrong you've always been there to guide me in the right direction," while for Father's Day he heralded, "the best dad anyone could ask for." His father, meanwhile, posted a shot of Kyle with brother Chase, writing, "I love these two with all my heart." Hopefully, it's all good from here on out.
