Where Is Dream Home Makeover Filmed?
Where is Dream Home Makeover filmed? HGTV is the undisputed king of home renovation programming, but did you know there's a whole bunch of similarly-themed content available to watch on Netflix, too? From Tidying up with Marie Kondo to Get Organized with The Home Edit, the streaming giant has a plethora of insanely bingeable home makeover shows to fill the void in your life. Their latest acquisition is Dream Home Makeover, hosted by lovable couple Shea and Syd McGee, who own and run Studio McGee.
In a blog post on their official site, the McGees thanked Netflix for "encouraging us to stay true to the nature of Studio McGee" throughout the process of filming the show. The couple revealed they'd been working with the streaming juggernaut since 2018, after initially sending them a sizzle reel to consider.
Dream Home Makeover was made in a DIY manner, with interviews shot in the basement of the McGee family home. If you're curious about where the McGees are located, and where their show was filmed, wonder no more.
The McGees from Dream Home Makeover are proud Utah residents
The Cinemaholic reports the McGees are based in Utah, which is where the majority of season 1 was filmed (aside from episode 4, which involved a visit to their previous home city of Los Angeles). The couple's official site notes that they moved to Salt Lake City back in 2015, after founding Studio McGee, whose current office is located in Lehi, UT (via PopSugar). Lehi is also where the McGees own dream home is situated; the custom-built property was completed in 2020. Additionally, their McGee & Co. warehouse, which is also featured on Dream Home Makeover, is located in nearby Draper, UT.
As fans of the show know, the participants are all Utah residents with properties located in Lehi, as well as, Kaysville, Farmington, Layton, and North Salt Lake City. In an interview with local paper The Salt Lake Tribune, the McGees confessed to missing southern California. However, they also acknowledged they've adjusted to their new digs. "Honestly, we've fallen in love with Utah," they revealed. In particular, they love the landscape, namedropping "the mountains" as one of their favorite parts of the state.
Season 2 of Dream Home Makeover has already been completed, but we'll need to wait and see whether it's in Utah again, or if branches out.
