What Sarah Ferguson Had To Say About Eugenie's Pregnancy
In a year that has dealt multiple blows to the royal family, from Megxit, to Prince Charles' COVID-19 diagnosis, to a hiring freeze at Buckingham Palace (via Daily Mail), the royal family finally has cause to celebrate — and Sarah Ferguson, the Duchess of York, is making sure to do her part on Instagram.
"I am so excited by the news that Eugenie and Jack are expecting their first child," Ferguson wrote, sharing a sweet snap of daughter Princess Eugenie and her husband, Jack Brooksbank. "Thrilled for them both and in my 60th year cannot wait to be a grandmother."
The silver lining comes at a much-needed time, as Eugenie's father-in-law, George Brooksbank, recently also battled COVID-19 (via Town & Country), while her own father, Prince Andrew, the Duke of York, stepped back from royal duties this past year due to his controversial ties with convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein. However, Andrew did receive a nod in the official statement from Buckingham Palace: "Her Royal Highness Princess Eugenie and Mr Jack Brooksbank are very pleased to announce that they are expecting a baby in early 2021. The Duke of York and Sarah, Duchess of York, Mr and Mrs George Brooksbank, The Queen and The Duke of Edinburgh are delighted with the news."
Princess Eugenie and Jack Brooksbank celebrate the milestones on Instagram
Fergie isn't the only one taking to social media to share the news. Indeed, her daughter has celebrated several milestones on Instagram this year, including her 30th birthday and 10-year dating anniversary with Jack Brooksbank, whom she wed in October 2018. In keeping with her unselfish character, the co-founder of The Anti-Slavery Collective advocacy group turned her anniversary into an opportunity to share the limelight with others.
"If anyone has an anniversary this week, if you are together or not because of this challenging time, if you are a frontline worker wishing to tell your person you love them, then please do send me a photo and message via DM of how you are celebrating and I will share your messages on my story over the next few days," she wrote on Instagram.
To announce their baby news, the princess shared a photo of a tiny pair of fuzzy bear slippers, noting, "Jack and I are so excited for early 2021." This prompted one cheeky poster to respond, "Wonderful news! Congratulations to you both. You have clearly not been practising Social Distancing!" Meanwhile, grandma-to-be Fergie is clearly over the moon, according to her Instagram post: "Welcoming a new baby into the York family is going to be a moment of profound joy."
