Things About Bindi Irwin's Pregnancy You Don't Know
What don't you know about Bindi Irwin's pregnancy? The conservationist has dedicated her life to continuing on the legacy of her father, the late "Crocodile Hunter" Steve Irwin. And with husband Chandler Powell, she's found the ideal partner to support her on that journey. As Country Living reported, the happy couple got engaged in July 2019, and wed on March 25, 2020. On a special episode of the Irwin family's reality show, Crikey! It's the Irwins, entitled Bindi's Wedding, fans were treated to a behind-the-scenes look at their big day.
As Irwin explained on the show, her father, who passed away in 2006, had a vision for the zoo he founded, which the family still calls home. As a result, his daughter wanted to marry Powell in that same spot to honor his memory. Due to restrictions related to the COVID-19 pandemic, Bindi Irwin and Chandler Powell's surprise wedding was a pared-back version of what they'd originally planned — but that didn't take anything away from how special the day was for them.
Then in August of 2020, Irwin took to Instagram to announce that she's pregnant! So without further ado, here's what you don't know about Bindi Irwin's pregnancy.
Bindi Irwin announced her pregnancy in the most on-brand way
Bindi Irwin — who's undergone a stunning transformation — and Chandler Powell have indeed confirmed they're expecting their first child together. They made the announcement on August 11, 2020, in the most Irwin-appropriate way possible: Irwin posted a photo on Instagram, in which she and Powell are posing in the stunning confines of the Australia Zoo — while holding a mini zookeeper's uniform between them. "Baby Wildlife Warrior due 2021," she wrote in the caption.
Additionally, although Irwin was only in the first trimester when she made the announcement, the couple couldn't wait to share the news. "This beautiful little being has become the most important part of our lives," Irwin continued. Powell followed up with his own Instagram post, with kind words for his wife. "You're going to be the most amazing mother," he gushed in the caption. The excited expectant father also admitted, "I cannot wait to embark on this new adventure and life chapter."
The pair was also eager to include fans in their pregnancy journey, with Irwin asking for any advice or tips other parents might have.
Bindi Irwin surprised her husband with the news of her pregnancy
Bindi Irwin and her husband don't just live together, as they also work together at the Australia Zoo. So when the time came for Bindi Irwin to break the news to Chandler Powell that she's pregnant, it was tough for her to find the right moment. As Irwin revealed on Instagram, she sprang it on Powell while he was in the middle of another task — thankfully, nothing to do with feeding crocodiles, or anything like that! "I took a test and ran into the kitchen where Chandler was making us tea," Irwin shared. "He didn't hear me come in so I speechlessly watched him pouring the water into my most loved hedgehog mug."
Irwin waited until Powell noticed her, then burst into tears as she revealed the news, with the couple's beloved dog watching happily from the floor. The newlyweds then sat discussing the future excitedly over their tea, feeling blessed for the opportunity to "find out what this amazing new soul loves in life, and experience the world all over again through their eyes."
Fans are dying to see Bindi Irwin's baby bump
Even though Bindi Irwin confirmed in that very first announcement post that she was only in the first trimester of her pregnancy, fans immediately began clamoring to see the conservationist's baby bump. In fact, the tabloids made several attempts to catch Irwin and Chandler Powell on the hop, but her trademark loose khaki getup made it virtually impossible for even the least scrupulous paparazzi to get the money shot. However, that didn't stop fans flooding Irwin's social media with increasingly desperate pleas about when her bump is going to debut.
As Aussie site New Idea noted, in every photo she's posted, both including and after the announcement post, Irwin concealed her tummy either with baggy clothes or by holding cute animals in front of it. One eager follower questioned, "I thought you were pregnant, where's your bump?" while another admitted, "I can't wait to see that baby bump." Thankfully, others jumped to her defense, reminding nosy followers that Irwin will share her bump whenever she sees fit.
On another note, it probably hadn't shown up yet, as one fan pointed out, because it was too early.
Bindi Irwin's first sonogram photo was accompanied by some furry friends
In keeping with her desire to promote the zoo and animal conservation above all else, Bindi Irwin ensured that, when sharing her first sonogram photo with her Instagram fans, she also included some furry friends to keep the message on brand. "The animal joeys we care for are excited to meet our human joey," she noted alongside the shot, which showed Irwin cradling a baby kangaroo (or joey) while Chandler Powell snuggled up to a koala next to her.
Irwin also revealed their baby is around the size of a hummingbird, again tying animals into it. "We can't wait to teach our little one about the importance of protecting our planet and the beauty of the wildlife and wild places we love so much," she continued.
Naturally, Powell also took the time to share the photo in his own Instagram post, showing their "little human joey with some of our Australia Zoo joeys." He also sweetly admitted, "Being a dad is already the highlight of my life."
Will Bindi Irwin's pregnancy be featured on a new reality show?
They're already the stars of Animal Planet's lively Crikey! It's the Irwins, which shows how incredibly normal Bindi Irwin's life is. But, with the news of Irwin's pregnancy, the rumor mill went into overdrive. Specifically, people wondered if she and Chandler Powell were about to start their own show that, shockingly, may also take them away from Oz. Sources reportedly close to the couple informed New Idea that they intend to move to the U.S., where Powell is from, to start a new life there. Allegedly, the newlyweds are considering a move either to Powell's home state of Florida, where most of his family still resides, or Santa Barbara, California; the latter is where the Irwin's close family friend, Olivia Newton-John — who has a dark and tragic past — lives.
Although Irwin's mother is allegedly against the move, and Irwin is reportedly torn about leaving the zoo and her life there behind, New Idea suggests that a million dollar deal is on the line — if the couple to appear as the stars of a reality show, which would follow their lives as new parents.
Chandler Powell is enjoying every moment of Bindi Irwin's pregnancy
Whether or not Bindi Irwin and Chandler Powell decide to stay in Australia or move elsewhere, there's no doubt the couple are excited are to be parents. Notably, Powell has not held back the fact that being a dad is already the highlight of his life, and technically he hasn't even started yet. He also posted on Instagram about how blessed he feels to have married his best friend, and acknowledged how wonderful it is to live and work with his pregnant wife. He's clearly enjoying every moment of Irwin's pregnancy!
If you found yourself 100 percent here for the happiness that Powell and Irwin radiate, you're not alone; the comments on the expectant father's post are filled with fans gushing over the pair's beautiful life together, with one trilling, "You guys are really living your best lives!!! So happy for y'all!!" Naturally, however, there was still one who wrote, "I can't wait to see the baby bump."
The proud grandparents-to-be are rallying around Bindi Irwin and Chandler Powell
Although New Idea alleges that things are tense between Bindi Irwin and her mother, due to a rumored impending move stateside, on social media there's nothing but love both from and for the expectant grandparents. When Bindi initially announced the pregnancy, Terri Irwin took to Twitter to gush. "This is the best day ever," she wrote, describing herself as "over the moon" and without the words to express "the love that is filling my heart." Although she admitted to being sad her late husband wasn't around to see it, Terri acknowledged, "I know that he would be so proud."
Terri also retweeted a post from Bindi, confirming simply that she and Powell will be the absolute best parents, to which Bindi responded, "You're going to be the greatest grandmother!"
Bindi also took to Instagram to share her love for all three prospective grandparents. "Our little one is going to be so loved," she wrote in the caption, alongside a shot of herself and her husband with their parents, all happily chilling out on a boat — alongside a grumpy-looking sea turtle (again, animals always come first).
Bindi Irwin's baby is due sometime in spring 2021
Bindi Irwin, who's grown up to be gorgeous, hasn't confirmed exactly when her baby is due — yet. However, in her very first pregnancy post, Irwin shared she was in her first trimester, while her first sonogram featured a baby "the size of a hummingbird." As Distractify noted, logically speaking, this would mean Irwin is due in March or April of 2021, give or take a few weeks (considering she may not have confirmed her pregnancy with the public right away). However, until Irwin goes public with the due date herself (and she may never do so), it's difficult to pinpoint an exact date, though spring 2021 sounds about right.
Although the animal conservationist has made it clear she and Chandler Powell want their fans to be involved in their pregnancy every step of the way, Irwin's reluctance to show off her burgeoning baby bump or confirm intimate details about their unborn child suggests that the couple expect a modicum of privacy. To that end, fans should behave accordingly (unless they want to wake up with an angry croc under the bed).
Bindi Irwin and Chandler Powell announced if the sex of their baby
In late September 2020, Bindi Irwin took to Instagram to share another baby update. Posing alongside Chandler Powell, the two of them smiling broadly, with a sonogram photo clutched in his hands and a stunning Aldabra giant tortoise between them chomping on some delicious flowers, the couple shared the sex of their baby. "Baby girl, you are our world," Irwin began her gushing post. In keeping with always tying in her chosen cause, she noted, "Our beautiful daughter is now about the same size as a hatchling Aldabra tortoise and is as healthy as can be." Finally, Irwin added, "We can't wait for her arrival next year."
Powell shared his own gushing post to mark the occasion, reiterating that Irwin and their unborn child are everything to him. "I'm so excited to meet our daughter when she's born next year and to see the incredible person she will grow up to be," he enthused.
According to the comments section of these posts, fans already have an idea for what Irwin could name her daughter: Stephanie, which can easily be shortened to Stevie, thus honoring Irwin's father's legacy.
