Best Dressed At The 2020 Emmy Awards
The 72nd Primetime Emmy Awards were unlike any we've seen in previous years. First of all, we weren't sure what to expect from the "come as you are" dress code. Would stars be wearing their pajamas on television's biggest night — especially since the awards would be coming to them, as host Jimmy Kimmel announced in his opening monologue? Luckily plenty of our favorite stars came to wow us rather than make us wonder, "why did we even tune in?" From Zendaya to Tracee Ellis Ross, we bow down to the celebrities who served up more than just jeans and made us feel a teeny bit normal for a few hours on Emmy night.
Zendaya brought the glam despite the relaxed dress code
The Euphoria actress did not disappoint with her first Emmys look — yes, Zendaya promised outfit changes per People. The star's stylist posted a sneak peek of her look to Instagram, and we immediately fell in love with the royal-purple hue of her Christopher John Rogers dress. The jewel-encrusted Louboutins and Bulgari jewels along with Zendaya's ethereal makeup means she is a shoo-in for best dressed on TV's biggest night.
Tracee Ellis Ross glittered in gold layers
Black-ish actress Tracee Ellis Ross gave us gold glam in her Alexandre Vauthier gown and Jimmy Choos (via Instagram). We are so grateful that the hilarious star took the Emmy Awards seriously and dressed for the occasion. Her Tiffany and Co. vintage jewels were the perfect finishing touch for a look that said, nope, 2020 isn't a total loss. "How fun to get dressed up! Can't say I miss the frenetic energy of the red carpet or wearing high heels, but boy do I miss a pretty dress!!" the actress posted. Amen to that!
Reese Witherspoon brought it in basic black
The Morning Show's Reese Witherspoon — wait, she also stars on Big Little Lies and Little Fires Everywhere — kept her Emmys look classic and clean in basic black. We are still loving that the actress dressed up for the awards show even if she stayed home. "Shortest #Emmys commute yet! Bringing the festivities to my lawn and excited to celebrate," Witherspoon shared alongside her Instagram post of her red-lipped look. Cheers to you, Reese!
Daniel Levy won the night in a kilt
Daniel Levy of Schitt's Creek won the night, for real. The show swept all seven of the comedy categories, including writing and supporting actor wins for Levy (via The New York Times). We also couldn't help but admire the actor's style for the evening. His gray jacket, tie, and matching kilt was classic, yet unexpected, and perfectly suited (see what we did there?) the lovable star's style: fun, perfectly-put together, and most of all, original.
Jameela Jamil kept is casual yet sexy in pajamas and no bra
Okay, we are giving The Good Place star extra credit for her sexy, glam pajamas because ultimately, isn't that what we all want to wear to the Emmy Awards? As the actress confided on Instagram, she skipped the bra and heels and opted for comfort instead. And as much as we appreciate the celebs who got all dolled up for the show, there is something so relatable about Jamil's comfy-on-the-couch look.
