Why Everyone's Talking About Nancy Pelosi's Hair Salon Visit

People are not happy with Nancy Pelosi. While the speaker of the United States House of Representatives has been a big proponent of people wearing face masks during the COVID-19 pandemic, she was recently spotted at a hair salon in San Francisco not wearing any sort of face covering, violating the city's coronavirus prevention rules.

Pelosi visited the salon on August 31 — one day before salons in the city, which had been closed due to the pandemic, reopened for outdoor appointments. Pelosi's appointment was conducted inside the salon. Pelosi defended herself, saying that the salon told her they were allowed to accept one customer at a time.

"I take responsibility for trusting the word of the neighborhood salon that I've been to over the years many times, and when they said, 'We're able to accommodate people one person at a time,'" she told reporters (via the San Francisco Chronicle). "I trusted that."

Nancy Pelosi claims she was set up

Security footage that was obtained by Fox News shows Pelosi in San Francisco's e Salon with a mask around her neck. Pelosi has called the incident a "setup" and has said the salon owes her an apology. The owner of the salon, Erica Kious, has denied setting up Pelosi. "There was no way I could've set that up," she told Fox News. "I've had a camera system in there for five years. I mean, I didn't go in there and turn cameras on as soon as she walked in and set her up. So that is absolutely false."

Kious explained that her salon is closed but that she believed she was allowed to "see clients one-on-one." As for why she released the footage, she claims that her reasoning had nothing to do with politics. "I just thought about my staff and people not being able to work and make money and provide for their families, and if she is in there comfortably without a mask and feeling safe, then why are we shut down?" she said. "Why am I not able to have clients come in?"

She added, "She's been coming in there... it's the fact that she actually came in, didn't have a mask on, and I just thought about my staff and people not being able to work and make money and provide for their families, and if she is in there comfortably without a mask and feeling safe, then why are we shut down? Why am I not able to have clients come in?"
