The Weeknd's Ex-Girlfriends: Inside The Singer's Dating History

Who hasn't grooved alone in their car to "Starboy" and maybe thought about how sultry The Weeknd's voice is? We know it's not just us! Well it turns out this singer's love life is as on fire as his music career. Specifically, The Weeknd, whose real name is Abel Tesfaye, has dated two A-list celebrities: a supermodel, and a singer who also dated another Canadian music industry heavyweight — none other than Justin Bieber. And we're not just talking about casually dating. These were two very significant relationships, and um, they may have sort of overlapped.

The Weeknd dated Bella Hadid seriously for years

According to Elle, The Weeknd met model Bella Hadid in 2015 — he asked her to pose for the cover art of his album, Beauty Behind the Madness. She said "no," but the duo still decided to meet up. They got serious, to the point that The Weeknd bought his love a dog, a Yorkie named Hendrix. The couple's red carpet debut took place at the 2016 Grammys, where The Weeknd was a big winner. About his success, Hadid told Glamour, "It was a big night for him. He has worked so hard, and he did so well that night. As a girlfriend I wanted to be there to support him. Seeing him so happy when he won a Grammy made me so happy."

In the same interview, Hadid revealed her love for her boyfriend. They would step out together in public many times that year, including to the Met Gala. But by November, People reported The Weeknd and Hadid had gone their separate ways. "Their schedules have been too hard to coordinate and he is focusing on finishing and promoting his album. They still have a great deal of love for one another and will remain friends," a source told the outlet.

The Weeknd dated Selena Gomez and packed on the PDA

The Weeknd and Bella Hadid would break up and get back together multiple times. According to Cosmopolitan, The Weeknd always had a thing for Selena Gomez. Interestingly, during one of these breaks The Weeknd started seeing Gomez, according to Elle. In fact, Elle reports it was in January of 2017 — just shortly after he ended things with Hadid — that he was spotted getting up close with Gomez. That seemed to be the theme of their relationship, which lasted about 10 months. Paparazzi would photograph the lovebirds making out in various locales, from Italy, to California, to Brazil.

Gomez and The Weeknd walked the Met Gala red carpet together in 2017. E! reported she whispered she loved her beau within earshot of Hadid's mom, Yolanda Foster. Ouch! Meanwhile, Gomez didn't speak publicly about her relationship often, but in a June 2017 interview with SiriusXM, she said, "I love being supportive, like, I love just being there and just kind of having somebody's back. It feels good, I haven't had that feeling in a while."

The Weeknd definitely had Gomez's back when she underwent a kidney transplant in the summer of that year (via People). "Abel has been one of her biggest supports. She had been traveling with him on his tour and he was off during her surgery and right after during her recovery," a source told the outlet. But then, by October, the couple had broken up, according to Popsugar.

The Weeknd dated Bella Hadid again

Elle reported that shortly after his split from Gomez, The Weeknd was seen leaving Hadid's apartment in New York City. It wasn't until April of 2018 that they were rumored to be officially back together (via Us Weekly). They were even reportedly planning to move in together and possibly get engaged.

But by August 2019, after a spree of Instagram displays of love, the couple was reported to have ended their relationship again (via E!). About the split, a source told the outlet, "They are in different places right now, physically and mentally. Bella is prepping for her fashion week commitments and Abel is working on his music and his upcoming acting debut." Conflicting reports have seen the duo getting back together and breaking up since this time.

In August of 2020, a source told Hollywood Life about the pair, "They're both still young so who knows what the future holds and they've always remained on good terms, but they're just on different pages at this point."

Both The Weekend and Bella Hadid have moved on for now

As of the summer of 2020, Bella Hadid was rumored to be dating Duke Nicholson, who yes, is the grandson of Jack Nicholson (via Teen Vogue). It's worth noting that for her part, Hadid has denied these rumors via her rep (via E!). She is said to be single, but not back together with The Weeknd.

Similarly, speculation is that The Weeknd started dating Rosalia, a Spanish singer who appeared in his "Blinding Lights" remix video around December of 2020 (via Film Daily). But much like Bella and Duke, this relationship has not been confirmed. Either way, it seems that according to Hollywood Life, Hadid is not upset by the notion of her ex getting cozy with someone else, with a source telling the outlet about the sexy video that the model, "knows the name of the game and understands that [The Weeknd's] form of expression is through his music. The source also noted, "Rosalia is gorgeous and Bella knows there will always be fan speculation regardless of who he works with."

The source also told Hollywood Life about the famous exes, "They have a long history and spent a big chunk of their lives together. That will never change and she knows they learned a lot from each other through their relationship." But in the end, it seems that according to the source, "Bella is focused on her own life and doesn't spend her time prying into his."
