Chrissy Teigen Explains The Confusing Timing Of Her Surprise Pregnancy
Like most of the world, we were scratching our heads when Chrissy Teigen announced she was expecting her third child with husband John Legend. Okay, our first reaction was to be super happy for the cookbook author and model (and frankly, one of the most hilarious celebrities on social media). But then, we remembered how Teigen shared her recent journey having breast implant removal surgery. How could the star have been pregnant if she just underwent a major procedure?
Well, it turns out Teigen was pregnant at the time, but didn't know it. The always-candid soon-to-be mom of three explained the entire story of her surprise pregnancy in a Twitter post (via People). The clarification of her timeline came as an answer to a fan who verbalized what we all were wondering. "[Chrissy Teigen] just announced she's pregnant. Before my breast reduction last year, they did a pregnancy test. Was she pregnant when she had her surgery in June? I feel like with her bump she had to be pregnant before that, but I could be wrong. I'm confused," the follower tweeted.
Chrissy Teigen sets the record straight about her pregnancy timeline
Always one to open up about her personal life with the most refreshing honesty, Teigen responded to her fan's question about her pre-surgery pregnancy test: "I did the routine pregnancy test you do before surgery. It said negative. It was not negative."
The star went on to share that "a few weeks after surgery, I took a test. And for many years now, I've taken pregnancy tests almost every month, praying to see a positive one day. Just wishful thinking. I never had a positive before." For those who follow Teigen, they will know that she conceived her two children Luna and Miles via IVF. "I didn't think I could get pregnant naturally anyway," she shared in the same Twitter message.
But, it turns out she can. Because as Teigen explained, the morning of Legend's album release party, she took another pregnancy test, and it was, in fact, positive. Although Teigen was happy, she would go on to explain that her overall reaction was a lot more complicated.
A positive pregnancy test "terrified" Chrissy Teigen
As anyone who has struggled to get pregnant can relate to, a positive pregnancy test is wonderful news, but it also brings with it a host of other emotions, like intense fear. In Teigen's case, she knew getting her surgery was risky given the fact that she'd been pregnant. "So we prayed to the boob surgery gods that everything would be okay. Went to every appointment terrified," she tweeted. In fact, she went as far as to say she felt her odds were not good.
It seems for now, the news is positive, however. And Teigen offered this inspiring message to other parents struggling to conceive: "What they say so often can be true. When you give up on trying, life has a way of surprising you." In addition to her good surprise, the star admits she is worried. "Part of me misses the safety of my perfect embryos, created in their little dish. They felt untouchable and safe," she wrote, eliciting understanding nods from women and couples who have endured IVF and undergone genetic testing of their embryos.
"IVF was an amazing choice for us to be able to make. So hard, but we got two beautiful monsters out of it. I promise you, I never ever ever ever ever thought I could," Teigen also shared.
Here's wishing her a very healthy pregnancy.
