You Should Start Doing Face Yoga. Here's Why
You probably know that there's more to a good skincare routine than washing your face. What you might not know is that there's also more to a good skincare routine than using skincare products. It turns out that if you really want to keep your skin looking fresh, you should be doing yoga — face yoga, that is.
Don't worry, you won't have to dust off your yoga mask for this, and you don't have to worry about a lack of flexibility preventing you from trying it out. As noted by The Indian Express, face yoga consists of "repetitive exercises" which aid in "strengthening the muscles of your face." Face yoga improves blood circulation and also helps to prevent premature aging. Not sold yet? Face yoga also helps relieve shoulder tension.
While face yoga sounds intense, the exercises are actually pretty easy! The best part is that you can pretty much do them anywhere, so you can work in an exercise or two on a work break or while watching TV.
Here are some simple face yoga exercises to get you started
There are plenty of face yoga exercises available online. One simple exercise, demonstrated on TikTok by user @dipsshikha, just requires you to massage your jawline in an upward motion to release tension. That's it!
Another exercise that can be found in the same TikTok video is to use your thumbs to massage your neck and chin. Do this moving upwards at least five times to help combat neck lines and wrinkles around the mouth. After this, pucker up your lips and tighten your jawline. Then, stretch your jaw to the side while also turning your head to that side. Hold for 30 seconds and repeat five times to tighten up your neck.
While face yoga exercises are simple, it's important to commit to them as they only work with regular practice. "It's a really great natural solution to regain your youthful appearance, and a great alternative to Botox and plastic surgery," facial yoga instructor Koko Hayashi told Good Housekeeping. Hayashi added that you should practice face yoga every day for "good results."
