The Best Celebrity Hair Transformations We've Seen During Quarantine

If you've been thinking of changing up your hair during quarantine, you are not alone. A lot of people have had the urge to do something drastic to their locks during the pandemic. Vox noted that people doing "something kind of wild to their hair in isolation" has even become a social media trend.

Hair transformations during quarantine aren't just about the Instagram likes though. Mental health counselor Dr. Danielle Forshee told Elite Daily that changing up your hairstyle "during a transition period" is symbolic of "a new start," and quarantine has certainly marked a new way of life for people all over the world. It's no wonder that so many people are choosing to make radical changes to their hair, from neon dye jobs to major haircuts, in many cases carrying out the makeovers themselves.

Even many celebrities have jumped on the quarantine hair bandwagon with surprising results. Here are some of the best celebrity hair transformations we've seen during quarantine.

Taylor Swift went for a subtle hair transformation during quarantine

Taylor Swift didn't go for a dramatic hair transformation during quarantine, but, in this case, less is definitely more. Swift showed off her trademark blonde locks in an Instagram photo in May 2020, revealing pink and blue highlights. While Swift made her celebrity hair transformation debut in the photo, the real purpose of the post was to promote her City of Lover concert, which aired on ABC before hitting streaming platforms Hulu and Disney+.

Swift updated fans on how she was dealing with quarantine in April 2020, when she took over as DJ for a day on SiriusXM's Hits 1 n chill show, as reported by Billboard. Swift said that her quarantine is being spent FaceTiming her loved ones, cooking, reading, and watching classic films like Alfred Hitchcock's Rear Window, starring Grace Kelly. Swift spoke of the importance of staying in touch with other people during quarantine, saying, "Isolation doesn't have to be an all-encompassing thing."

Jamie-Lynn Sigler transformed her hair for an important cause

While many celebs are undergoing hair transformations during quarantine just because they can, actress Jamie-Lynn Sigler decided to chop off her long locks for an important cause. She debuted a stunning new bob on Instagram in May 2020, revealing that she cut off her hair on her birthday not just to mark the event but to also benefit those in need. Sigler donated her hair to the BeYOUtiful foundation which, according to its Instagram bio, is a "community created for women of all ages defying the odds against cancer." The organization's hair donation guidelines promise to use donations for "those in need." Sigler had been growing her hair out for two years, saying that the hair she cut off represented two years worth of "physical, emotional, and spiritual growth."

While giving yourself a haircut in quarantine could be considered risky business, Sigler took precautions to make sure that her new hair \style came out looking chic and professional. Professional stylist Riawna Capri aided Sigler in chopping off her locks, presumably virtually.

Hilary Duff's hair got a bright update during quarantine

Hilary Duff has been known for her signature blonde hair ever since she was a kid and captured our hearts in Casper Meets Wendy. She's rocked the blonde hair throughout her career, bringing her trademark locks to shows like Lizzie McGuire, Gossip Girl, and Younger. In quarantine though, Duff decided to make a big change and transformed her hair from blonde to blue. Duff debuted the blue look on Instagram in April 2020, but it turns out this was not a DIY job. Duff's husband, Matthew Koma, later revealed on Instagram Live that he had been the one to dye the celeb's hair. "I do a lot of stuff around the house," he said (via People).

Unfortunately, Duff's blue hair did not last very long. Just a few weeks after dying her hair, it began to turn to a muddy green hue. About a month after her hair transformation, she revealed on her Instagram story (via Yahoo! Style) that she'd had to strip the fun color from her hair. "I couldn't have lake hair for one more day," she said.

Miley Cyrus went through a chic hair transformation during quarantine

Miley Cyrus has never been afraid to experiment with her look, and she had fun changing it up in quarantine. A few months before the lockdown, Cyrus chopped her hair into what her stylist Sally Hershberger called a "modern mullet." Hershberger told E! News that the style, which Cyrus adopted in November 2019, "was just the right vibe," but apparently Cyrus didn't feel that her mullet was the right vibe for quarantine. In May 2020, Cyrus decided to go even shorter, transforming her hair into a pixie cut with the help of her mom, Trish, who wielded the scissors, and Hershberger, who helped out via FaceTime. The recorded call can be viewed at Vogue, but Hershberger also uploaded a cute pic of the Hannah Montana star's new 'do on Instagram. "I trained Trish well!" she wrote in the caption.

Cyrus may not have cut her own hair in quarantine, but she did transform her boyfriend's look. Cody Simpson posted a video on Instagram of Cyrus skillfully giving him a buzzcut in April.

Kylie Jenner decided to go for a more natural hair transformation while in quarantine

Kylie Jenner's quarantine transformation wasn't so much of a makeover as a makeunder. While we're used to seeing the Keeping Up with the Kardashians star glammed up and sporting different wigs, Jenner decided to use quarantine as a time to give her hair a break. In an Instagram Live in April 2020, Jenner said that she was taking a break from her wigs and letting her natural light brown hair shine. She also decided to opt out of fake nails and false eyelashes for a while — definitely a different look for the celeb. Jenner said she "just felt like this is such a good time to let your hair out, and your nails out, no lashes."

Going more natural didn't last for too long, though. About a month later, Jenner announced that she was going through the process of lightening her hair to platinum blonde. She posted a throwback photo of herself with white-blonde hair in her Instagram story in May, as reported by Cosmopolitan, captioning it, "Working my way here."

Bretman Rock changed his hair more than once during quarantine

Beauty guru Bretman Rock knows how to craft a perfect look, and he decided to play with his style even more during quarantine. While he started off quarantine with his natural black hair, Rock began playing with different colors as the lockdown progressed. He went gray in March 2020, captioning an Instagram photo of his hair with "Ms.Corona made me do it."

Just a week later, Rock's hair was a neon yellow green, but that didn't last for very long. At the beginning of April, Rock posted an Instagram video of himself with pink hair. A couple weeks later, Rock turned his hair a bright blue, debuting the look on social media while wearing matching blue sweatpants.

Rock revealed that the transformations were carried out with the assistance of his boyfriend, whose identity has been kept a secret. As the couple explained in a YouTube video, Rock's boyfriend prefers to keep his life private. At the beginning of May 2020, Rock posted a photo of the pair with his boyfriend's face obscured, only showing off his matching blue hair. "Oh y'all thought I was dying my hair a different color every week by myself?" he wrote in the caption. "No b****."

Bella Hadid transformed her hair with DIY bangs during quarantine

Bella Hadid is no stranger to experimenting with her hair. As the model told Glamour in 2016, she started dying her hair at the age of 14 and has sported black and blue hair in the past. Hadid posted a TikTok of herself with gray hair in April 2020, but it looks like the color was a filter because her later Instagram posts showed her with brown hair. She did, however, make a more lasting change to her locks several days later, posting footage of herself cutting her own bangs on her Instagram story, as reported by Allure.

While Hadid has had bangs before, they had grown out by the beginning of quarantine, which apparently prompted the celeb to recut them on her own. It looks like Hadid is not bashful about cutting hair because, after she cut her own bangs, she gave her friend Leah McCarthy a full haircut with the assistance of her sister, Gigi Hadid.

Keke Palmer has experimented with different hairstyles during quarantine

A celeb hair transformation doesn't have to be permanent for it to be stunning. Keke Palmer has played around with all sorts of different looks during quarantine, and they've all looked amazing. The celeb posted pictures of herself on Instagram with several different hair colors including green, bright pink, platinum blonde and pink, dark with purple highlights, and a rich chestnut. Palmer probably has a wide assortment of wigs on hand to pull off so many looks in such a short span of time. We're used to seeing the actress and singer with dark hair, so it's fun to see her shake things up.

Playing around with her hair is also one way that Palmer is able to keep herself busy during quarantine. As she told Billboard, she's just not used to being at home so much. "Quarantine is so weird," she said.

Ruby Rose's quarantine haircut was quite the change

Ruby Rose may have had to be incognito when donning her superhero suit on Batwoman, but her quarantine hair is anything but discreet. The actress started off quarantine with an ultra-short hairstyle which she all but buzzed off at the end of April 2020, leaving just one short braid of hair on one side of her head. "Slipped.. fell on a shaver.." she joked on Instagram

The buzzcut would have already been enough of a celeb hair transformation, but not too longer afterwards, Rose decided to take things even further with a dye job. She couldn't pick just one color though, and, since highlights are pretty hard to accomplish with such short hair, she decided to dye one half of her head blue and dye the other half pink. "Sometimes you just need to feel blue and other times you need pink to lighten your day," she wrote in the caption of a May 2020 Instagram post that showed off her new look.

Hayley Kiyoko's hair has gone through a colorful transformation during quarantine

What's better than dying your hair a fun new color during quarantine? Dying your hair several fun new colors during quarantine! Hayley Kiyoko was sporting blonde locks at the beginning of quarantine, although her dark roots were starting to come in. "Silver lining is that my roots are really accentuating my eyebrows," she wrote on Instagram.

It looks like Kiyoko got tired of the heavy roots look, because she decided to reach for the hair dye(s), but not to cover up her roots. Instead, she decided to go for a more colorful look, streaking her entire head with purple, green, and pink colors. "Created my own rainbow," she wrote in the caption of an Instagram photo of her new look in April 2020. It looks like Kiyoko opted for a temporary dye, though, because a few weeks later her hair had mostly gone back to blonde, although some beautiful streaks of purple remained in her formerly rainbow-colored hair.

Jennifer Love Hewitt dyed her hair pink during quarantine

Like many celebs, Jennifer Love Hewitt dyed her hair during quarantine. The actress opted for a DIY makeover, revealing in an April 2020 Instagram post that she used a conditioner from Lime Crime to achieve the look. "The smile of a girl who just did at home hot pink highlights because what else can I do right now!" she wrote in the caption. Per Refinery29, Lime Crime's hair coloring conditioners add temporary color to the hair. In the caption of her post, Hewitt also apologized to her colorist, Nikki Lee, saying "Don't be mad, lol."

Coloring her hair isn't the only creative project Hewitt has indulged in during quarantine. The actress also found time to create some art with her kids, as she showed off a project they made together on Instagram. Hewitt also found time for some music making, and she posted a video of herself singing with her husband playing guitar in the background.

Dua Lipa's celeb hair transformation involved hair dye

Dua Lipa's quarantine hair transformation is absolutely to die for — or should we say to dye for? The singer posted a photo of her hair in May 2020, showing dark locks with streaks of pink. Lipa captioned the Instagram post with a series of strawberry emojis.

Lipa found many ways to stay busy during quarantine aside from playing with her hair color. While many singers, including Lady Gaga and HAIM, decided to postpone album releases during the pandemic, Lipa made the decision to release her album Future Nostalgia during quarantine. She explained to NPR that she struggled with the decision to release it and considered postponing the release date. Ultimately though, she decided that not releasing the album would be "a disservice" to her many fans.

"I just want people to be able to take a moment away from what's going on outside and I hope it gives them some happiness and some moments of fun," she said.

Anna Camp's quarantine hair was totally unexpected

Anna Camp adopted a totally different look during quarantine, and we love it. The normally blonde actress debuted dip-dyed blonde and watermelon pink locks on Instagram at the beginning of May 2020. The two-toned look didn't last for very long, though. It looks like Camp couldn't resist going even pinker — several days later, she posted another picture in which she sported an entire head of pastel pink strands. "This is how I attend professional zoom meetings now," she captioned an Instagram post showing off her new hair.

It seems that Camp had been toying with the idea of going pink for a while before she took the plunge. The celeb posted a picture of herself wearing a light pink wig in April 2020 with the caption, "To dye or not to dye that is the ?" It looks like she finally decided that "to dye" was the correct answer to the question, and we have to say that we completely agree.

Sarah Michelle Gellar slayed her quarantine hair transformation

Sarah Michelle Gellar will always be iconic, no matter what color her hair is or what celeb hair transformation she goes through. The actress traded in her usual blonde locks for pretty pink strands at the end of April 2020, and we've got to say she slayed it. It looks like Gellar opted for a temporary dye for what she called her "quarancolor." She uploaded a video of her new hair on Instagram, writing, "#roseallday (or until it fades out)." A couple weeks later, it looked like most of the color had, indeed, faded out of her hair, but who knows? Maybe she has some dye left and will decide to go pink again soon.

Then again, Gellar may just choose to stay blonde. She does, after all, seem to have an affinity for the tried and true as evidenced by the fact that she still has a dress she wore on Season 1 of Buffy the Vampire Slayer decades ago, as noted by Us Weekly. Gellar posted a picture of herself wearing the dress on Instagram during quarantine, adding the hashtag "#safeathome."

Pink gave herself a DIY hair transformation during quarantine

Pink not only had to deal with social distancing during the pandemic, but she also battled COVID-19. Pink discussed the experience on The Ellen DeGeneres Show, revealing that her family had already gone into quarantine in early March 2020 when her son, Jameson, began to exhibit symptoms. Pink and her son both battled the virus, while her husband, Carey Hart, and daughter, Willow, never experienced any symptoms. At one point, things were so bad that Pink woke up unable to breathe.

The family made a full recovery, but we can understand why they'd want to let off some steam after such a traumatic experience. In an Instagram post, she revealed that she gave herself a haircut while drinking in March 2020. While her celeb hair transformation didn't make her look too different since Pink is often spotted with short hair — though it wasn't as neat as a haircut done at the salon — the big difference is that the singer started sporting her natural brunette locks in quarantine instead of bleaching her hair blonde or dying it pink. She and her husband decided to dress up for an at-home date night in April, and Pink looked noticeably different with her brown hair and minimal makeup look.
