The Truth About Stacy London's Girlfriend
Stacy London surprised many of her fans and followers on Instagram in December of 2019 when she admitted that she'd been in a relationship for over a year with a woman named Cat Yezbak. Cat is a musician, and also, according to her own Instagram, a voice-over artist and a hot sauce connoisseur — but no, she didn't meet Stacy appearing on an episode of Hot Ones, as that is evidently something the former host of TLC's What Not to Wear has yet to add to her resume. Instead, Stacy tells People that she met Cat in summer 2018 at a fundraiser for Cynthia Nixon when the former Sex and the City star was running for governor of New York.
London wasn't really ready for a relationship at that time as she was caring for her terminally ill father, but the two stayed in touch. Cat proved to be a very supportive friend during this difficult time, and even attended the funeral. One month after Herbert London's death, the two went on their first date, and have been practically inseparable since that time.
Why Stacy London hesitated to go public about her girlfriend
One subject Stacy addressed in her first Instagram post about her relationship with Cat is why she'd waited so long to go public about it. She said that although their friends and family all knew the two were dating, there were two reasons why she didn't make some big announcement about it for an entire year. The first reason, according to London, was that "this is my first serious relationship with a woman and I'm sure there will be some hoo ha about that. But I would never hide her out of shame."
The second reason, however, was that she felt that, in some way it might be seen as just too easy for her, a privileged middle-aged white woman, to suddenly announce her late-life coming out, particularly as she used to date men in her younger days. She was struggling with a way to acknowledge those who'd been less fortunate and whose coming out stories were more difficult. As she put it, "Unlike me, there are countless people in the LGBTQIAP community who have had no choice in who they are, no love from family on which to lean, no support from anyone anywhere. I fell in love, truly in love, with this beautiful, sexy, kind soul and I won't apologize for that but I stand on the shoulders of a community that fought like hell for me to be able to do that openly and proudly and EASILY."
Stacy London's one regret about her relationship with Cat
In addition to expressing her gratitude to those whose same-sex relationships had helped to pave the way for her to enjoy her own relationship with minimal prejudice, London also told People that she had someone else to thank for her happiness: her father. Although Herbert London, an academic who founded the London Center for Public Policy, was a conservative Republican, he and his far more liberal daughter were very close to one another.
Stacy only wishes her father could have met Cat before he died, and knows he would have approved of his daughter's new love. Even Stacy thinks Cat and Herbert would probably have "sparred" over a few issues, she feels sure that the two would have liked each other very much. She also feels that somehow her late father was behind her newfound joy with Cat, saying: "I really do think he brought her to me. He was watching out for me with her."
