The Real Reason Harry And Meghan Won't Use Their Instagram Account Anymore
Things are changing a lot for Prince Harry and Meghan Markle. Not only have they stepped back as senior members of the royal family, but they've also moved to North America, first settling in Canada before their recent move to California. Now they're making another major change, and have announced that they will no longer be posting to their wildly popular Instagram account, @SussexRoyal.
The account was first launched in April 2019 and has since racked up more than 11 million followers. "Thank you to this community — for the support, the inspiration and the shared commitment to the good in the world," read the final Instagram post from the couple.
In the caption, Prince Harry and Markle wrote that "the world at this moment seems extraordinarily fragile" but that they "are confident that every human being has the potential and opportunity to make a difference."
Harry and Meghan's Instagram account will remain active, but won't be updated
The caption continued, "What's most important right now is the health and wellbeing of everyone across the globe and finding solutions for the many issues that have presented themselves as a result of this pandemic. As we all find the part we are to play in this global shift and changing of habits, we are focusing this new chapter to understand how we can best contribute."
Markle and Prince Harry assured people that, while they will no longer be active on Instagram, "the work continues."
Their Instagram account going inactive is part of Prince Harry and Markle's agreement that they will no longer use the Sussex Royal name after officially transitioning from the royal family. This means that their website, SussexRoyal.com, will also be inactive, although a spokesperson said (via People) that "both the Instagram account and website will remain in existence online for the foreseeable future."
