The Real Meaning Of All The Kardashian-Jenner Kids' Names
The Kardashians and Jenners have been in our lives since 2007, gracing TV screens, magazine covers, fashion week, and more. And whether you love them or hate them, they're here to stay, especially as they continue to expand their families. With so many kids, it's hard to keep up, so we've broken down each family, the kids, and more intriguingly, what their kids' names actually mean. Let's start with Kylie Jenner.
The youngest of the Kardashian-Jenner clan gave birth to Stormi Webster in February 2018. Though she famously kept her pregnancy under wraps, she didn't hold back when it came to discussing how she named her firstborn. "I looked up names and I saw Storm and I really like that, but I wanted her to have an 'ie' at the end of her name like me," she explained on Instagram live (via Seventeen). "Kylie and Stormie," she continued. "I had two names that I honestly liked better than Stormi, but when I had her I just felt like she chose her own name and I just couldn't imagine any other name other than Stormi." According to Vogue, the meaning behind the name is simple, as it comes from the weather-related word "storm," and known to represent the moody and mysterious.
Kim Kardashian's kids all have unique names
Kim Kardashian, along with hubby Kanye West, boasts the biggest family of the Kardashian-Jenner clan. And it all started with North in 2013. "I actually got it from Jay Leno, who made that as a joke," Kardashian recently revealed in a YouTube video. "I was like, 'No way, I would never name my daughter that.' Like, I said that on his show," she continued. But it turns out it wasn't so funny after all, and while the name generally refers to a direction, Kris Jenner told The View that it also means "highest power" and "that North is [Kim and Kanye's] highest point together" (via Glamour).
According to The Name Meaning, Saint, who was born in 2015, is said to mean "sacred" or "holy." The name was reportedly chosen as the baby was "a blessing," considering Kim's "difficult pregnancy" (via E! News). Their third child, Chicago, who was born via surrogate in 2018, is believed to have been named after Kanye's hometown. However, according to NameBerry, the name Chicago is actually Native American for "wild garlic." Lastly, there's Psalm, Kim and Kanye's youngest who was also born via surrogate in 2019. According to Metro, Psalm is a religious song or hymn but can also refer to the Book of Psalms in the Bible.
Kourtney Kardashian has three kids with interesting monikers
Kourtney Kardashian co-parents her three children with her former flame Scott Disick, despite no longer being in a couple. The two first had Mason in 2009, followed by Penelope in 2012, and Reign in 2014.
"The first time I started looking at baby names, Mason was the only one I liked," Kourtney told Life & Style (via MTV). "It was the only one that stuck with me. Right before he was born, I told my aunt we were thinking about going with that for a name. She told me that Mason means the same thing in English that Kardashian means in Armenian — stone worker." Penelope, on the hand, is believed to mean "weaver'" and is of Greek origin (via BabyCentre). And Reign? It's derived from British English and means "to rule," of course (via BabyNames.com). Apparently, Kourtney had the name on her list for each child but it wasn't until the third that she thought it was right (via Life & Style).
Khloe and Rob Kardashian have kids with special names
Khloé and Rob Kardashian both have one child. Khloé, who was previously with basketball player Tristan Thompson, gave birth to True in 2018. According to Marie Claire, Kris Jenner revealed on Instagram that it's actually a name that's been in their family for years. "FUN FACT... my Grandfather's name on my Dad's side was True Otis Houghton," she wrote. "My real Dad's name was Robert True Houghton... so I am so excited Khloe named her daughter True!!!" While it can mean "loyal" and "honest," Merriam-Webster defines it as "being in accordance with the actual state of affairs" or "properly so called."
Rob Kardashian had his only daughter Dream with Blac Chyna in 2016. According to People, it could refer to "hope," "wish," or "wonderful." It could even simply mean the act of dreaming while asleep. However, it seems it's something we'll never know for sure, as Bustle reports that both Rob and Blac Chyna have kept quiet on their choice of name.
