Amy Schumer Opens Up About Her Surprising IVF Results
Amy Schumer has made no secret of her fertility struggles. The comedian revealed in January that she would be undergoing IVF in order to conceive a child with her husband, Chris Fischer, whom she married in 2018. The couple already have one child, 9-month-old Gene Attell Fischer.
Schumer recently underwent her first egg retrieval and updated fans with the rather surprising results in an Instagram post. "So ivf went like this for us," wrote Schumer. "They retrieved 35 eggs from me. Not bad for the old gal right? Then 26 fertilized! Whoah right? For all of those we got 1 normal embryo from that and 2 low level mosaic (mosaic means there are some abnormal cells but can still lead to a healthy baby) So we feel lucky we got 1! "
E! News noted that this is a particularly excellent result for a 38-year-old.
Amy Schumer is destigmatizing talking about fertility
Schumer's candid IVF journey has inspired others to be more open about their own fertility struggles. The comedian previously asked others to share their infertility experiences, which they did in an earlier Instagram post. Schumer thanked the people who shared their stories in her recent update, writing, "They made me feel empowered and supported."
She added, "So many women go through many rounds of ivf which is painful and mentally grueling. I heard from hundreds of women about my their miscarriages and struggles and also many hopeful stories about how after rounds and rounds of ivf it worked!! It has been really encouraging. Thank you."
Amy Schumer disclosed her phone number
Amy Schumer concluded her post by asking others to continue to share their IVF stories, even handing out her number for those who wanted to privately share their experiences.
"Anyway I am so grateful for our son and that we have the resources to get help in this way," she wrote. "I just wanted to share and send love and strength to all of the warrior women who go through this process. My number is in my bio if you are open to text me your experience or whatever you feel like. I read them when I can't sleep or have time."
