Meet CNN Anchor Christiane Amanpour's Son, Darius John Rubin

CNN anchor Christiane Amanpour is known to many for her work as a global affairs journalist in programs like the self-titled "Amanpour" and "The Amanpour Hour," as well as for when she had her frightening battle with ovarian cancer. However, one truth about Amanpour that some viewers may be in the dark about is that she is the mother of a son, Darius John Rubin.

Darius was born on March 27, 2000. He's the son of Amanpour and her ex-husband, Jamie Rubin, with whom she was married from 1998 to 2018. Between his two parents, Darius clarified in a 2020 Instagram post that he's definitely his mother's son. "Momma's boi," he wrote in a caption accompanying a photo of him and Amanpour.

Per his LinkedIn, Darius graduated from Columbia University in 2023 with a degree in political history. However, it seems he found his true calling in a more visual medium.

He's a filmmaker

Darius John Rubin may be most recognized as the son of CNN anchor Christiane Amanpour. However, rather than taking after his mom and working in the news media, Rubin carved his own path, pursuing a career as a filmmaker. His love affair with movies started at a young age, and the relationship only grew more serious from there. "Ever since I was a kid, I always loved movies," he told Wild Filmmaker in October 2024. "I think when I really fell in love with it was high school, as I was getting older and my eyes started opening to the magnitude of life that I hadn't been aware of before." His appreciation for movies is made immediately apparent by his Instagram page, on which he sports a picture of actor Jack Nicholson from the movie "One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest" as his profile picture.

Rubin got his foot in the door in the film industry as a producer's assistant at Warner Bros. Discovery, and he served as additional crew for the movie "Killing Castro," starring Al Pacino. He's also pursued his own personal projects as a director and has helmed two short films. He celebrated his production, "In Service's," online release in November 2024. "This film is about Grief," he wrote on Instagram. "A personal story but a collective one. In a world full of self-comparison where even the loss of a loved one becomes an area of competition, it is more important than ever to lean on community in a genuine way, even across boundaries that seem impenetrable." While he may not be following directly in his mother's footsteps, it's clear he shares Amanpour's passion and drive.
