Are Ben Affleck & Jennifer Garner's Kids Spoiled? Not If Ben Can Help It

Ben Affleck and Jennifer Garner have three beautiful children together. Their eldest, Violet Affleck, was born in December 2005, Fin Affleck was born in January 2009, and Samuel Affleck was born in February 2012. Having two A-list actors for parents could easily acclimate any kid to the life of luxury, but Ben Affleck is determined to make sure his kids don't get a big head. He has made it clear that if they want to buy something, they have to earn their own money.

The famous father showed how he keeps his kids grounded when he and Samuel were seen at the 2025 GotSole sneaker convention in Los Angeles. Sam is growing up fast, and in a clip uploaded to Instagram, he expressed interest in a pair of Dior Air Jordan 1 sneakers which are sold at roughly $6,000. But the affluent Ben Affleck made sure his son didn't rely on his father's fortune. Ben assured his son that if he wanted to buy the shoes, it would be his own responsibility to pay for them. The movie star said to Sam in true dad fashion, "That's a lot of lawns you gotta' mow there!"

Comments on the Instagram video praised Ben for acting like a typical father and teaching his son the value of a dollar. "Yesss make that kid earn it like you did! Awesome parenting!" one commenter put it. Another added, "Good to have feet on the ground and to be able to say no."

Despite being big names in Hollywood, Jennifer Garner and Ben Affleck have mostly kept their children out of the limelight. The kids are all teenagers now and are still kept private despite making the occasional public appearance alongside their famous parents. Affleck still stands firm on his decision not to buy expensive sneakers for his son. He told Access Hollywood, "I'm like, 'You do not need thousand-dollar shoes!' He's like, 'We have the money' — I have the money, you're broke!"

Like her ex-husband, Garner has made it clear that her kids are not entitled to luxuries. In 2015, Garner spoke with Today about her daughter Violet Affleck, who at the time was 10 years old. "We just had back to school night, and I said afterwards, 'Do they need a computer?' They need some kind of device or computer to complete their homework. Our daughter doesn't have any of those things, and she's, like, the only kid in the class who doesn't, apparently."

But their strict rules about money seem to be working, as their kids have become independent for themselves. Middle child Fin Affleck showed off some individuality with a bright new hair color in 2024. Oldest child Violet even spoke before the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors when she turned 18. She gave a speech in 2024 speaking out against mask bans, no doubt making her parents proud.
