Whatever Happened To Johnny Depp's Son, Jack?
Johnny Depp's daughter, Lily-Rose Depp, has had an extensive career as a model and actor on both stage and screen, made more prominent by the 2024 Oscar-nominated film "Nosferatu." On the other hand, Johnny's son, Jack Depp, lives a quiet life in Europe away from the limelight, but don't take that to mean he isn't close with the rest of his star-studded family.
Jack was born on April 9, 2002 to Johnny Depp and his then-girlfriend Vanessa Paradis. Lily-Rose and Jack were both born in France, a conscious decision made by their mother, a native. According to US Weekly, Paradis told Belgian magazine Weekend Knack in 2007, "For my children, I secretly choose France ... you can live much more anonymously. And that's a bliss, especially when the children are still young." This was the best possible decision she could've made for the kids, as Lily-Rose has spoken fondly of her childhood in Europe, and Jack has seemingly found a permanent home there.
During a sit-down with Interview Magazine in December 2024, Lily-Rose expressed gratitude for how they were raised. "Not only that I have traveled so much, thanks to my parents having to bring me around, but also for what I now see as the work that they put into making sure that my brother and I had a life in these places that were not ours," she remarked, continuing, "At the time I wouldn't have seen it, but now I see that as conscious efforts that my parents were making to make me and my brother feel at home." Now that Jack has entered into adulthood, he's carving his own path in the world. From bonding with his sibling to a bartending gig, Jack lives a surprisingly normal life.
Jack Depp creates art, but prefers a life outside of the spotlight
Jack Depp wasn't destined for a life on the screen, but that doesn't mean he didn't give it a shot. During the press tour for "Nosferatu," Lily-Rose Depp told Interview Magazine how, "[Jack] used to dress up like Dracula when he was a kid for school," so clearly dramatics run in the family. It didn't take long for Jack to discover that he fancies a more secluded life. Speaking to The Philippine Daily Inquirer in April 2014, Johnny Depp revealed his joy that his son didn't have a desire for the family trade: "Aside from school plays and things, he hasn't shown any desire to become an actor. Whew!"
However, Jack hasn't ruled out the arts entirely. According to his IMDb page, he had a small role in the 2016 film "Yoga Hosers," starring alongside his dad and sister. (Before that, he had a cameo in Johnny's 2005 flick "Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.") Jack also found his self-expression through other creative outlets, as Johnny revealed in the aforementioned interview. "My boy Jack has always been a very talented draftsman. He draws really super-well. He also plays music very well. He's got a good feel for that."
Jack Depp started a band in 2018
Jack Depp turned his love for the music into a project when he started a band, and Johnny Depp was one proud papa. During an interview with Rolling Stone in June 2018, Johnny recounted the memory of Jack announcing the musical act and revealing to his father that he was naming it "Clown Boner." "We don't need a paternity test. That's my kid," Johnny joked to the publication.
Not only do the father and son share a sense of humor, but Johnny has experience as quite the musician himself. He's played with rock and roll legends, like Oasis and Jeff Beck, and is a member of the Hollywood Vampires, alongside Alice Cooper. Jack reportedly played guitar for his punk rock group. According to their Facebook page, the band now has a separate page and goes by the name Along Came Tragedy, of which they release all of their original music under. It's unclear but doesn't seem like Jack is still involved in the group as of writing.
French model Camille Jansen and Jack Depp dated
The Depp men apparently have a type! It's unclear how long Jack Depp dated French model Camille Jansen, but in June of 2018, Vanessa Paradis missed the premiere for her film "A Knife in the Heart." The French publication Public reported the director, Yann Gonzalez, as saying, "Unfortunately, Vanessa Paradis was not able to join us tonight, she had to be absent because of her son's serious health problems" (via People). Gonzalez didn't further elaborate what sickness he was facing. Jack wasn't out of commission for too long, though, as two days later, he was spotted on a walk with Jansen around his mother's neighborhood in Paris, appearing "a lot better," a source disclosed to People.
The couple was still going strong when his 18th birthday rolled around in April 2020. Jansen celebrated the milestone with an Instagram post, including a pic of Jansen's arms wrapped around Jack, as she captioned the photo with a string of celebratory emojis, writing, "happy birthday my love." Then, in August of 2020, they were spotted on another one of their romantic walks, this time through the U.K. As of writing, it is unknown if they are still together.
Jack Depp has a strong relationship with his sister, Lily-Rose
Although they have dealt with tragedies in their life, Jack Depp and his sister Lily-Rose Depp have been able to maintain a healthy relationship. While Jack doesn't have any social media and doesn't seem to have ever been interviewed, his family will frequently speak on his behalf and refuse to cut him from the narrative just because of his secluded status.
Lily-Rose, who is three years older than Jack, joined in the festivities of welcoming Jack into adulthood when she posted to Instagram marking his 18th birthday in 2020. She snapped some adorable throwback photobooth shots of her and Jack as toddlers, hugging and making funny faces, and made sure to include a more recent photo of him. "My little baby Jackie is 18 🥺 My baby bro my heart and soul happy birthday I love you SO MUCH!" she captioned the post. The black-and-white photos are all the more telling of Jack's transformation as he went from Johnny Depp's baby boy, to a nonchalant cool guy.
When speaking to Interview Magazine, Lily-Rose detailed her admiration for her little bro, and how their sibling dynamics still come into play well into adulthood, as she said Jack would "finally think [she's] cool" after landing the role as Ellen Hutter in "Nosferatu." "It's the classic thing of when you have a younger sibling, they think you're so cool when you're kids, and then when you get older, now I think he's so cool, and I'm like, 'Let's hang!' And he's like, 'I'm busy.' But yeah, I think I got some points with this one," she remarked before saying, "He's the coolest person ever."
Jack Depp worked as a bartender in Paris
In terms of how he supports himself, Jack Depp doesn't seem to take any handouts from his famous family. While he took a break from the gig in 2024, he worked as a bartender and cook at a Lebanese establishment, L'Area, in Paris for two years. The owner, Edouard Chueke, expressed how exemplary of an employee Jack was to the Daily Mail in December 2024: "He was a good employee, he left a few months ago but I expect him back later next year. Good staff are hard to find." He continued to add that the restaurant has become a bit of a hot-spot for celebs, with Jack's family members Vanessa Paradis and Lily-Rose Depp being among the list of regulars.
Chueke also runs the restaurant's Instagram page, where he would frequently upload photos of the life and environment of the restaurant, and a few rare glimpses at Jack himself. In May 2021, he posted a carousel of images of him and Jack, singing his praises for how much of a stand-up guy he is, including in the caption, " ... This guy is such a guy #paris @lareaparis #losangeles #friendsforever❤️." The food service industry; either for those trying to become actors, or those desperately trying not to.
